Question: LS3 T6060 G8 GXP vs T-56
Hello everyone,im new to this forum and already need some help. Im doing a Miata LSX conversion that most suggest the LSX and T-56 set up. I ran across a 2009 G8 GXP with a LS3 and T6060 6 spd trans.I need to know if the T-56 and the T6060 shifter location are somewhat the same. I also know little about the T6060 as far as better than the T-56..Please post up and help a new member out.
Thanks,

Not sure about the shifter location but I do know the TR6060 is a better transmission as most comment that it is smoother shifting that the T56 not to mention it is rated for my torque. Also, the LS3 is a great engine that should make a ton of power. If the price is right I would jump on this.

An "aftermarket" T6060 (aka Magnum) has the shifter position about 2.5" forward of the T56 position. However, the T6060 in a G8 GXP has the shifter completely independent of the trans body. It is attached to the trans via a shift rod. I am not sure how far back it sits in comparison to the T56 shifter position but you can see it sits behind the tail shaft. see the pics.

I think you could probably remove that top plate and put a shifter there. However, I wouldn't pay 10K for that setup either. You could have a heads cam LS2 for less and make more power.

compared to post #4 pics the rear shaft is longer and shifter placement is off.Big difference ive heard is the internals.I have decided the t6060 from the G8 will not work without mods to the trans tail shaft ,shifter or my trans tunnel.I may find another solution with maybe going with a differernt application..viper t-56.What do you think.

It appears that at least a 31 spline yoke will be needed.
I would think D & D should know exactly what the requirement
would be to install a TR6060 into an F-body.
The internals in the TR6060 are crazy different.

That is the internal pump line. Here is a pic of the basic idea. This isnt exactly what it looks like because this is a C6 front plate. But it gets the general idea across.

Exactly what does the shifter design have to do with the engine being under the cowl area on the f-body? The GTO has the same basic shifter design as the F-body. The CTS-V, G8 and 5th gen camaro all use the remote shifter because the drive shaft bolts to the yolk which is bolted to the output shaft of the transmission. And instead of redesign the wheel they carried the CTS-V style relocated shifter on into the G8 and 5th gen.
