Default what is an el camino classified as

After some a lot of persuasion and thinking im going to go with the swap in my 81 el camino instead of the truck and stick the 406 from the el camino into the truck. The 350 is getting tired anyways. My question is what would the el camino be classified as..truck or car? I always thought of it as a car but a friend of mind said no its considered a truck. The dilema is do i get an engine from a truck platform or a car platform. A lil help here fellas.
thanks.

I will have to take a look. its an 81. Funny how when you dont need something you see it all the time, and when you do need it, its nowhere to be found.

its down as a commercial vehicle so its a truck. I havent had the title swapped over to me just yet though. I remember reading something about people in california having a choice at some point in time. Might have been a long time ago though.

how did you get away with using the 5.3 G-body? I thought those only came in trucks. California sucks when it comes to this stuff.

yeah chevy considers it a truck, so the states use that as an excuse to register it as a truck to get more money from you, even though it is mostly car, same weight.

99.9% of the time, I've seen it classified as a 'light truck'.

There were 3 things that allowed me the 5.3

#1 The inspectors are STUPID they ran my car in 2nd gear for one test, told me they could not test it because I did not have a gear indicator in the car another time (to which I replied did you check the f+++ing dashboard where chevy put it???). Another time they said they could not check it because I had an oil leak.....uhm that drop that you see hanging there is from a bumper shock moron.

#2 In Illinois you don`t have to pop the hood, so as long as it passes the sniffer your good....and a 2001 truck motor is a lot cleaner than the 85 car motor.

#3 Oh yeah....and IL no longer has emissions tests for 1995 and older cars
