Default Lq4 in 52 Chevy Truck project

I thought I would post a few pics. of my latest project. I am working on a 52 Chevy truck rat rod. I just completed the front Heidts IFS and will soon be fitting the Lq4 and T56. I hope to have a strong pulling, good handling street cruiser. The rear will be an 8.5 disc brake 10 bolt with truck arm style suspension. I will have more updated photos of the Lq4 installed in a few weeks. Hope you enjoy the project.

Looks very nice. Good luck with the rest of the project. Will like to see your progress on it. How much you paid for the IFS? Did you use dropped sppindles?

Thanks Mike. I'm just under 2K on the complete Heidts IFS. Top quality parts! I installed their IFS in my 66' Chevy II and it turned out perfect. I did not go with the 2" drop spindles on the 52 truck because the IFS takes about 4-6" out. Heidts said I could exhange for the 2" drop spindles if I find the need to go lower. I'm going to bag the front and rear so I want need the drop spindles. I hope to have the Lq4 and T56 in place in a few weeks.

So to use the air bags, you need the dropped spindles?

You can use either spindle with the air bag set up. I chose not to used the 2" drop spindle due to the amount of drop the regular spindle and IFS took out of the truck. The air bags will allow for any ride height regardless of the spindle.

That's gonna be a great looking ride when you are done. You have 2 of my favorite things, a 47-53 Chevy truck and an LS1 engine. I've got a couple old 47-53 trucks myself. My 53 was bought new by my great grandpa. It will be getting a LS1 and total refurbishing when I get around to it.

Thanks,

This truck looks close to what I'm trying to achieve. I like the flat black and gray.

Default 50's

Nice setup, I'm building a 47 with a 5.3 too. My 47 was a heavy duty 3/4 ton frame so I'm switching the cab and nose over to a S10 frame.

Seems like kind of a shame to tear up a rare Honda S-10 with custom paint.

Thanks 50adrod. I checked out your thread on the other board; sweet build! Is the radiator for the AD truck or a custom unit? Do you have a part number, vendor, etc. for the rad? I see the Hooker block hugger headers worked out good for you. I was hoping the S10 LS shorty headers would fit but after looking at your pics., I don't think they will work for me. I hope the 2-1/2 collector on the Hooker block hugger with allow the 6.0 engine to breath.

thanks, the radiator is a 4 core aluminum replacement radiator from e bay, dont remember the seller. if I would do it again I would get the top hose outlet on the passenger side, it will make the hose conection easier and leave room for the air intake tubing. yes, headers are a tight fit with the stock frame, the exhaust will be 2-1/2 pipe, so it has to get down to that size anyway so hopefully it will flow.

I will do some searching for the rad. Where did you rout the steam lines? I have seen some routed to the rad. tank.

Looking good, funny how many guys on here are building these trucks.

I am building one as well, 54 1st series. My build is low budget & is built with junk I have laying around. It has a turbo charged 346 & 4l80E.

Making a little more progress. I'm enjoying being out of the office for 2 weeks; I can make progress on the rat rod! I picked up a '70 Camaro 8.5" 10 bolt rear end. I pre-fitted the rear end (shown below) yesterday. Plans are to set up the rear suspension with a truck trailing arm style set up.

As for the Lq6. Next will be sourcing a set of headers. I'm think the S10 LS headers will be my best bet. I wish I had as set to try or knew someone that had a set.
