Order the edelbrock intake by itself (your choice) and order the MSD 6010 Box. The MSD 6010 box comes with the harness, software and box itself to control everything. It plugs in to the factory coil packs, cam and crank sensor.
Carb I would use the proform 750. Uses holley jets and very easy to tune,
Jegs is pretty good on price.

DO not order the edelbrock kit. It is VERY limited.

pure drag race or max effort perhaps not
and for carb i reccomend a Holley Street HP. 750.
the holley is way easier to tune out of the box,
the proform takes more input imo. at least imo, and ive gone thru a carb. or 2.

Edelbrock/MSD Kit works ok, ive use before with good results. do not need laptop. pretty much just plug and play. not as limited as one would think. it does have its limtations. but will support most anything a street/strip car will need.

Also, yeah the Holley HP series is #1 if you don't mind spending $600-800 on a carb.

the street HP line are considerably lower priced than the Pro Series line which your thinking of.
i own a Pro Series 750 HP that going on my new motor. with a Super Victor.
and that carb is pretty high priced but very easy to tune and comes with many desirable features out of the box.
the Street HP line start at 375$ for the 650 vaccum secondary unit. which imo is way better than a standard double pumper. comes with better features out of the box. the hi end version 750 mechanical secondaries is like 550$

Edlebrock or GMPP manifold is personal choice. You just missed a deal to get a GMPP manifold for $99. Aside from that check the ads. Sometimes used ones come up.
For ignition boxes get the MSD and NOT the Edlebrock. The edlebrock ignition box is made by MSD but doesn't allow you to program it with a laptop. That means you have a 5500 RPM readline whether you want it or not. They are both plug and play, very easy to set up.
Carbs you can get from ebay.
Once you have those three things all you need is a fuel system, air cleaner some linkage and you are in business. I don't know if you can get away with the FI fuel pump by just running a return style regulator. But even with a new fuel pump it is not that complicated or expensive.

We put a 5.3 in an 89 s-10 blazer with street tires 373 gears and a t-rex camshaft. We are using the edlebrock intake and msd box on it with a junk 750 vacuum secondary holley and the motor had 170000 miles on it. Beliieve it or not the damn thing went 8.06 at 93 mph in the 1/8. Not bad for a high school shop class. We plan to bore and install ls1 pistons in the motor and port and polish the stock heads then install 200 shot of nitrous these little motors are amazing and cant wait to finish the new set up.
