What's the latest? I'm guessing you may have even experienced the ever so elusive first test drive by now?

could you give a little info on speedo hook up and gauge package. I boned out a 02 camaro and am going to start same project soon, I hope. Am not sure on speedo from cable to wire conversion. really want to keep dash stock looking, maybe aftermarket gauge clusters that fit in stock dash? any info would be helpfull.

where u at in michigan? thanks

A car with an open diff is like trying to run with your leg in a cast (BTDT). I'm leaning toward 3:73's, (I'm running a 3:27 posi now) let me know what you think.

Nice work. Hopefully everything is running well so all you have to do is swap drive shafts and

I used a cable x so the stock speedo still works.. http://www.abbott-tach.com/cablex.htm

so with my hood down my car looks totally stock, I wanted to keep the stock gauges and column shift to keep the sleeper vibe. I mounted the cable x in the glovebox so speedo corrections for gear/tire changes are a snap!

Im in the flint area...

Well, I am glad I could help. You will be much happier with the car with the LS1, and the 8.5 inch. I did the same thing, though I kept the mono-leaf. Looking pretty good, and happened pretty quick, hope you get it running pretty damn soon. It is a LONG drive down to the exhaust shop with open headers, so try your best to keep it over geared and as quit as possible. I agree with John that the blue paper gasket sucks, just changed mine in Feb. I know you caught the changes on the NCC forum, and that one didn't show up. Hope to be running soon myself. Oh, and I used cap head bolts in the two hard to get ones on the collectors. You will regret it if you don't make those two easy to get. I think that the next time I drop the exhaust I will just weld the bolts in as studs and not ever fight them again.

I ordered the copper gaskets. S&P recommended that there should be a flex pipe in-between the exhaust and headers, (i have them, they are going in my mid-pipes). if its welded directly the movement of the exhaust will destroy the gaskets...

Car is all back together, magnaflow exhaust sounds sweet. still waitin on my 15" rallys for the rear but I took it out to the local cruise spot on saterday. No major problems, forgot to hook up the heater blower motor (fixed) and I have a vibration in the driveline around 25 mph. I think I have too much down angle on my pinion. So I have some shims and an angle finder ordered from summit, should be here this week. Going in for an alignment tonight. The car drives fantastic with the new powertrain. Need to let the new rear gears get broken in before I get on it too much...its very hard to do!

I needed to put some axle shims to adjust pinion angle to fix the drive shaft vibration. I had previously installed the axle with u bolts that came with a kit from a camaro restoration place. Backing the nuts off the u bolts the metal just smeared like they were made of wax...nice 3/8" ching chong metal..... So now I am waiting on summit to deliver some good (expensive-ish) 1/2" u bolts to put the axle all together. so much for having it all done last night. Parts should be in monday so no miles on it this weekend..

But here are some pics

Looking good. You couldn't find any u-bolts locally? That is a pretty slick setup you did for the mid pipes with the flexible couplers.

No local 1/2 u bolts, plus i needed shims, summit got me the stuff overnight (standard shipping) so I was good to go. Put 40 miles on it last night, drove great, everything worked, no leaks.. .I am a happy camper!

oilpan was straight forward. You will need to take out the plug for a dipstick as you mentioned. only think you need to unplug is the oil level sensor, but that should be un-plugged anyway if the harness is off the engine. take it slow pulling the pan around the oil pump pickup and you'll be fine. Good luck with your swap.

65 miles yesterday, 105 total. Using GPS the speedo with the cable-x is dead on. The heater hoses started rubbing on the passenger a-arm, so i shoved a rag in the space and got it home without incident. The gas gage is incredibly non-liniar went 3/4 to 1/4 in 50 miles, so its very true to the oem one. It cruses effortlessly at 80 and I never saw an engine temp over 190. The engine has the famous ls1 piston slap, but it quiets right down after it warms up. I plan on fixing the heater hoses tonight with these handy things i found.
