I have a 1955 2nd series with a 79 Monte Carlo front clip. I am going with a 2001 5.3 carbed with 700R4. Rearend is an 8.8 Explorer 3.73 disc brake with posi. Camaro oil pan setup, and notched cross member. I am using some Chevrolet short and wide lower mounts bolted to the crossmember, with the adapter plates made by S & P combined with factory rubber mount uppers. Still a work in progress! A link to some picks of my project below:

Working on a '56 small window. Still a work in progress, but the plan is a MustangII suspension, LS3 crate engine, and a 4L80E trans. Rear end will be an aftermarket 9" with a true four-link (NOT a 4-bar) suspension.
Working on body repair and cab rebuild now. My pictures are also pretty large and un-interesting so far. Just lots of rust repair and some custom body work.

I am in the "bare frame" stage right now, I have a 59 Fleetside Big window short bed that I an doing with a 2003 5.3LS with 4l60e, mustang II front end Boxed Frame, 4-Link Rear, probably with a 9" Rear on a 4 link. 4 wheel disc, power steering, relocated tank.
Front end is Fatman's, I was going to do my own rear but I'm thinking probably just going with No Limit's fatbar.
Still gathering parts...I'm going for fully modernized with old truck look (except red genie wheels/trim rings with whitewalls, tall shifter with a yellow mooneyes ****, and updated lighting being the only clues something else is going on).
I know original poster said 55-57, but 58 and 59's are the same "generation" Task Force trucks--only differences are in the bodywork--grills, front fenders, hoods, and emblems. Frame, cab, running gear, bed-- is all the same.

How 'bout some pictures of a REAL truck? This is my '47 Diamond T model 201. 6.0, 4l60E, Dana 70, Chev van front front crossmember narrowed 3" with one ton spindles. I'm about to tackle modifying the 6.0 engine harness, and how to get the proper fuel pump for the 6.0 in the '93 van fuel tank (it fed a TBI 350).

59 GMC, stepside, small window
70's Camaro subframe, Z'd up 2", 8.5 10 bolt from same car.
Engine: some type of gen III setup, have had a 5.3, 6.0 and a 4.8 in it...changes weekly. Probably end up being a 4.8, it's just a cruiser. Trans was Th400, now 4l60e. Obviously I have decision making problems...
Still need to get my drop spindles to get the front down more..

MeanYellow,
Looks good. I've always liked those trucks. Imagine it with a custom Art Morrison G-max chassis.

The truck has 2600lb bags all around. Front drop spindles will get it a little lower in the front than the way is now. The front end swaps usually drop them a decent amount themselves, especially if they are z'd up at all like mine is. Obviously I'm going for a pretty low truck when the bags are all down. The engine suppors themselves are homemade and the plates are the usual adapter plates. A handful of manifolds fits my particular setup.

heres my new lsx project. im going to start a build thread on it when the time is right. i picked this truck up cheap! it has a frame and running gear from a 1980 c10 under it. its a great driver as is. but im going to have a boost friendly lsx built for it. i have'nt decided whether to go single or twin turbo yet. i just need to see how much room im going to have under the hood. before all of that, i am definetly going to get the body off that frame and get it on a backhalved s10 frame in the near future! and im also going to get the body and paint right first.

I'm working a '49 GMC project. Started with a long bed truck, shortened to standard bed, MII front end, 3.73 Explorer disc brake rear axle, 5.3/4L60E, bucket seats, etc.
