Default ls1/lt1 in my 87 fox

Hello every one i am new from longisland and i just picked up a 87 mustang convert with a 88 iroc 350 tuned port in it and a 700r4 auto trans. ( still fuel injected to) they seem to have done it properly still has power steering and stuff. only issue is the motor is knocking and will let go at any moment.

I personally am a ford guy but chevy builds a bad *** engine.

So i just want to get some opinions on what you guys think i should do i was asking a few of my friends and i was getting different inputs

I was wondering what i would have to do to convert from a 350 tpi so a ls1 or even a lt1. would i have to just change the ecu? or is the harness different also.

what exactly is the difference in the engines?

if it does end up to much of a hassle i do have a few old school chevy 350's with a carb and i believe i can just switch over the tpi setup to it and possibly the heads also.

thanks guys any comments are highly appreciated!

You will have to get the wiring harness and ecu with what ever motor you want. The lt1 will bolt into the car as is. Just have to change to the wiring harness/ecu. The ls1 requires different mounts and different trans. The ls1 is a beast of a motor though. Best bang for ur buck.

Well f you have time and alittle extra cash do the LSD swap. I honestly don't think the lt1 swap would be worth it. If u can't do the ls swap just put in a carbed sbc

If you stroke a TPI motor to a 383 they make insane torque and are alot of fun to drive. That would be my plan, and since its an older motor parts are cheaper...

Since the TPI is already in there, like the above poster said, I'd just rebuild the current motor and have it stroked. You could always upgrade the cam, heads and intake depending on what's currently on the motor. RWHP in the 360-380 range should be attainable with a good setup, low 300's with a milder setup.

6.0 with victor jr. and carb. then you only need an ignition box to run the coils or swap to a distributor and drive the wheels off of it
