Exclamation Vortec 4.8 or 5.3

hi, I juste register but I have read a lot of threads on this site for a while.

I want to swao a vortec engine into a 1966 chevy c10 truck and maybe even into a 1976 ford f-100 that I just finished.

I found a 04 gmc truck near my home in a salvage yard with the engine, tranny and everything on it, but it has the 4.8, drive-by-wire. Is there a big difference between the 4.8 and 5.3.

Thank you

66 Chevy, long way to go

Wow nice looking ford! I would go with the 5.3. Its more bang for the buck in my opinion. There are probably more 5.3's out there than 4.8's. Or you could just go with a 6.0 like i decided on.

Thanks tennerv8, I will keep looking for a 5.3, the salvage yard has a 6.0, but is missing some of the external parts, like alternator, throtle body and some other stuf, thats whay I did not want to get it.

Thanks again

in junk yards, 4.8s and 5.3s seem to sell for about the same money... $400-600 for a 100k mile motor. For a few hundred more, you can get a 6.0, and considering the time and cost involved with doing the swap, you might as well pay a couple hundred more for the 6.0.

I got my complete 5.3s fully dressed for $575 each (+freight) w/ ecu and harness. I couldn't find any 6.0s remotely near the same price.
I've seen 5.3 and 4.8 prices seem to be around the same, so I went with the 5.3. 6.0s are still a goood bit more.
