Default 3.8 99 Camaro To 5.3 Lm7?

I am wondering what all it would take to swap the 3.8 in a 99 camaro rs to a 5.3 lm7. Block is knocking and has lifter noise. I am just curious how much more it would cost vs rebuilding the 3.8.

i think very pricey compared to putting a used or rebuilt 3.8 back in. You will need ls1 wiring harness,k member, accessories, trans ,and just alot more stuff. Unless you have all or most of that stuff its probably not worth it.

Yea I don't have most of that stuff up here with me. My spare ls1 Transmission is still in florida with my dad. Plus all of the other stuff and buying a lm7 on top of it. The 3.8 is cheaper to buy a crank kit for along with gaskets, etc and rebuild it myself than just buying the lm7. Its going to be my gfs car after she sells her cavalier and repays me for buying it. I got my Supercharged ls1 so its not worth doing the 5.3 to me. Thanks anyways though. If anyone has anymore to add feel free to add it if u want to. I might do it a few years down the road though if we still have the car and the 3.8 goes out again.

You are probably looking at easily double the cost if buying a motor.

Yea I already took the 3.8 parts to a machine shop. Im getting the crank reground and a rod replaced along with a full gasket set and pins for it. Should know how much next friday when the owner gets back. Its the gfs car anyways when she pays me back, I got the t/a when I want to go fast.

@ Darracq - Carbed motor in a 4th gen is a total pain in the A**. You have to cut the cowl and it is kind of hard to deal with the distributor.

@ John 2005 - Why did you have to leave? The other day at the Wed. night "car show", a couple rwd cars did donuts and the ricers got jealous. I almost jumped in myself. It is a shame Ryan didn't have the camaro out.

I had to leave cuz I had a better chance of getting a job up here, moved into a 3 bedroom house already and now bought a camaro along with a 99 jeep grand Cherokee so im doing way better up here than in FL although I still need to come back there sometime and get the t/a out of my dads garage.
