Default Air intake reduction... how small is too small for LQ4?

I've got a basically bone stock LQ4 out of a 2004 Silverado 2500HD. Hooker center dump headers, single 2-1/4" exhaust, no cats, and VERY mild tune.

I do not want to run an open exposed "cone" style element. I've got one in there now and it is too damn loud for my tastes.

I tracked down a "factory" air cleaner that will work for my application(1993 Pontiac Bonneville air cleaner) The problem is the intake size on the Bonniville is a bit over 3"... like 3-1/4".

Is using a reducer from the 4" of the LQ4 to the ~3" of the air cleaner too much of a bottle neck?

My concern is I don't really have the ability to modify the plastic housing AND have it look good

Attached are two pictures for your enjoyment.

First shows the rig that got the LQ4... 1971 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ55.

Second shows the engine bay almost complete. Excuse the mess... in the middle of fixing an exhaust issue(shop put an o2 sensor in the wrong spot) and battery tray needs new hold down bracket.

Summit has an enclosed filter, strait K&N type, in a nice, [polished], alum housing. If you have the room, it may be worth looking at..

The "technical" name for that elbow is a cobra elbow

I got that one from here:

On the enclosed filter, my large concern is noise... the pictured rig is soon to be daily driven and it sounds like a bad car chase seen from a movie where they mount the mic right next to the intake.

But the other issue is I would rather not use an oiled filter such as the K&N. I've read too many reports about the MAF getting screwed up due to the oil

3" inlet should be fine on a stock motor. Esp. since you have a single 2 1/4" exhaust.

Anyone have an idea for where to get a flexible bellow type connector? This is to allow for the flex of the engine.

My google searches have been little help.
