Default Coolant Level Sensors Purpose?

What is the purpose of the coolant level sensor? It runs to the PCM, but how is it used? Is it for emissions? How is it setup in the OEM configuration? I got a complete motor, but didn't see how this sensor was setup in the stock 5.3 configuration. Im doing a swap that requires all of the emissions equipment and Im wondering how to set this sensor up.

Its just an idiot light. Not "sensed" by the PCM or anything, at least in the LS1.

I know the oil pressure sensor doesn't hit the PCM, but this one is an idiot light that goes through the PCM???

2002 5.3 Truck motor for reference...

It does pass through the PCM but is not needed in a swap. Just gets sent to the data center as a serial data signal.

Thanks, if it was part of the Emissions system, I would have to keep it. Sounds like that isn't the case. Ill pull it from the system.
