Prices are all over the map, copart seems to always have a few. One copart auction last week had a 1999 z28 (115K miles) go for 1800, would have made a good swapper.
I just looked at a complete, no damage 1998 TA with 145K miles for 4 grand.
Seems funny to even think about buying a complete car just to grab the engine, though..

There are 4-5 F-bodys on the Phoenix Craigslist for <6000.
I bought my 06 GTO (LS2 T56 W 53K miles) for $4900 on craigslist.... You can always try Copart, or Iaai.com. But you have to be licenced in most areas to buy from them. I have used a salvage broker in the past for Copart auctions in the past.
There are 4-5 F-bodys on the Phoenix Craigslist for <6000.
