68 Plymouth GTX, LSx swap. Project HellFire
Cheers,
It has been a while since last activity on this site. Camaro has been gone now for more than two years. FRC Corvette was keeping me busy in a mean while but thats now gone too.
Time for a new project. Back to the roots with Mopar iron. Front suspension will be upgraded with some corvette parts and driveline with something from the great LS-family.
This is project HellFire.
(Cause the hell will break loose, when the purists hear about it)
Here she is on a trailer at Long Beach Harbour, ready for shipping. It will take some 8 weeks or so, before I get my hands on her.
This project will have a slow start, but it will happen. Suspension parts already waiting at the garage.

Mopar guy of over 30 years here... I can't wait to see this thread get posted to moparts! I can hear the already!
I also can't wait to follow the progress. I'd rather see some of these on the road with Chevy power instead of sitting in someone's field for decades rotting away. It's YOUR car now. Have fun! I knew it would only be a matter of time before I saw an LS A-B-E Mopar.
Edit: I once posted a '70 Newport to moparts that a local lowrider guy had cut the torsion bar front end out of and changed out the rear leaf spring setup to run hydros. I liked it. I don't know why the thread got deleted.

After few days of cleaning and tearing unneeded or broken (mostly interior) parts away, I can say that it sure is a great foundation to my project. Very straight and unmolested body (except the hood). Only minimal rust at the trunk floor. I will add few pics soon.
The front suspension clip is from a C4 (-85) Vette. It will be interesting to adapt parts from that to the GTX.
PS. Its not really a GTX. Just a cool badged 318 Satellite, so no real harm done

It has been a while. A very little real progress has happened, but a lot of work inside the mind has been done. A few, "very carefully selected" parts has been aquired.
2004 LQ engine with a LS2 cam to start with!
LSA heads to accomodate...
Few intakes to choose from. I am thinking that maybe a L92 truck intake would be actually a really good choice to my combo, but we`ll see. For starters, it is going to be N/A, but ... maybe in a near future (after the first driving season) it might get charged. That we will see later.
I have continued stripping the body and it sure looks a great, mostly rust free, platform to buid. Typical rust on the trunk floor but thatīs it. Only very light rust could be found at window rails.
Front window is almost completely clean
At rear, only very minimal rust damage can be found on lower corners. Those areas are typically totally rosted through!
Next the stripping will continue. The lights (front/rear), badges and emblems, side windows and the front quarters will have to go. Then I will give her a nice warm bath. Some hot water power washing.
I will get back to this on my next update... hopefully sooner than later

Completely forgetted few things. Gas tank/pump assembly from 2005 GTO will find itīs new home at the trunk.
And the latest "budget" upgrade is a 1997 Explorer 8.8 rear axle. 3.73 gears and disc brakes should work great on my project.
I agree, I will probably have to check that axle before installation.
The axle looks like that it might need some fresh parts, so I donīt know how "budget" it will be at the end
