Default Edelbrock Carb Intake Q:

Hey guys, Im just about to put my Edelbrock set up on my motor.

There is a plate/shield underneath the old FI intake. it covers up the valley btwn the heads. It looks like it has a couple of flat sensors on it too.

Do I take this off before installing my Edelbrock Carb intake?
What is this for? What are the sensors?

Thanks.

Sounds like thats a gen 3 ls, so that would be the knock sensors on the valley cover. IIRC the edelbrock covers that spot entirely, so youd take it off, but you'll need to put those knock sensors somewhere (which means tapping the block to put the larger ls1 style where the ls2s got theirs, or running ls2 sensors)

Also, does your valley cover have your PCV stuff on it, or since it was FI did you have some other ventilation?

You will leave the knock sensors and valley both in place, or remove both and make a custom valley cover.

Yes, leave the plate there. It covers the lifter valley.

Carb'd motors have no need for the knock sensors so just don't hook them up.

Do a little better searching next time, and guys, if you don't know the answer, no need to guess at it.

The edelbrock intake will NOT replace the 'lifter valley' cover. Funny thing about this lifter valley, there aren't any lifters that you can actually see. There's actually nothing useful or of interest under this cover at all.

As you can clearly see, the cover is still needed with the new intake.

Since I didn't need the knock sensors anymore (they are installed into two bosses in the bottom of the valley) I removed them entirely. To seal up the holes left behind, I reused the existing black gromets. I filled the hole for the wiring harness with high temp and then used adhesive to keep them on the cover.
