Default new member, project idea... w124 benz

About me, I have been involved with cars, motorcycles and others for 10+ years and have stumbled across a rare mercedes model that deserves recreation but with an LSX engine and t56 instead of the german fare.Presently I am in the Army stationed on the east coast near DC, As I sit here now I am deployed for another 2 months and the gears are turning. I do not own either the car or the engine but neither should be too difficult to come by.

The 1986 AMG Hammer is my inspiration here. Basically it is an 86-95 300e with a 5.6 or 6.0 AMG 4cam about 375 hp so I am told. I know that the rest of the car needs upgrade as well but thats all much easier and far from custom.
Has anybody had experience with something similar or may know the w124 body style more intimately? I have read through as a lurker for several weeks and I did see Gen3benz's 190e. I really want to get the forums input before I go too far ahead with this project.

If I can figure out this board below should be a pic of the hammer.

Anything can be done with time and money. Opinions are like ********: everyone's got them and they all stink. You need to do what makes YOU happy. If that's what you want do the research and get er done.

I would start by getting on some bmw forums, and start researching the car, its week points and cost of aftermarket parts based on the HP, torq, and performance that you want to achieve. Then figure out what motor you want to use and how much to build that. Get a figure together then figure and at least 3 times that number. If you can afford that and have the time, usually 2 or 3 years, then I would be all over it. I hope you can fabricate too.

That's just my stinky opinion tho

To date my experience as a H*nda kid led me to build a swapped 13-14 sec CRX set up for road course, not drag. I recently finished a 71 Honda CB750 cafe bike, and prior to that a 71 Porsche 914 with a big 4 that I built. The porsche was a restoration that took 5 years and like 12k to do. This time I am not scared of the build, I don't want to re-engineer other systems though. I think the easy way really is a vette engine trans setup. My only concern like I stated was things like do I have to trash the OE trans tunnel, re-do the steering shaft like on Gen3benz's 190e. I know some here have thought about it but I have seen no pics or measurements.

telling a guy with a merc to go to the bimmer forums, now that is a stinky opinion!

that said, the first thought i had was how it looked like a more muscly e36; Id love to see it done. If it came with a 4cam v8 would you really have clearance issues?

So you're thinking that a 4 cam V8 would be a, ok ya it would be a taller wider engine than wouldn't it. I have very little with pushrod V engines and I pretty much just had to say that out loud to agree with you. I have yet to check out the angle or engine dimensions if I can find em even to compare. I suppose that weight and trans differances are good places to start also. Off to thet interwebs to find out more and present to the class.
Displacement 5953 cc / 363.3 in³
Bore 100 mm / 3.94 in
Stroke 94.8 mm / 3.73 in
Compression 9.8:1
Power 287.1 kw / 385 bhp @ 5500 rpm
Specific output 64.67 bhp per litre
Torque 566 nm / 417.5 ft lbs @ 4000 rpm
I found this out about the engine, but I did find this image elsewhere, it was the m117 that amg stuck in there.

found this elsewhere but it seems like it was a 90 deg v8
According to MRAMAY who I believe posts here also ( this was on the peachparts forum) M117 engine weighs 452 pounds. hopefully he sees this and can shed some light on dimensions

Looks like it would be cake to do... GTO Front sump oil pan and looks like it would be fine.

I support keeping old steel on the road anyway we can. Do it!

I just registered here and I'm in the early stages of planning a W124 wagon LS1/T56 swap, myself. I can't really find much info on anyone doing it before, though.

Just like this, but no badges (other than MB badge) and AMG Monoblocks.
