Default What can I expect from a cammed LQ4 or LQ9

Looking for either an LQ4 or an LQ9 for my Fox body project, what can I expect from either of these engines with mild mods - cam, bolt ons, exhaust?

Will they make 350rwhp with these mods?

Stock heads, intake, etc...

Thanks

I'm more than certain wig bolt one and exhaust you would make over the 350 mark. Cam should put you over 400 or better.

Thanks guys

Here's the deal - ready to buy now and I have a few options

2003 6.0 out of GMC Sierra and 2003 6.0 out of Silverado - i'm guessing these are LQ4's?

Both have 122k and 114k respectively

The other option is a 54k 2005 6.0 from an Escalade - this is the LQ9 correct?

the 2k3 engines are $850 and the 2k5 engine is $1000

LQ4 has lower compression because of dished pistons versus the higher compression LQ9?

Which engine? Are the truck intakes sufficient for the time being or do I need to invest in an intake ASAP?

Sorry for the confusing (newb) questions but i'm completely in the dark on these engines.

Thanks

I'd go 2005 if a turbo isn't in the future.

If you can swing the LQ9, do it, if you are worried about the intake get a used LS1 intake, the truck one is very tall and wont fit under the stock hood. I got a LS1 intake for $30.00, then modified the fuel rail to work. See my Photobucket for info.

Both engines are complete and come with the truck wiring harness. The ECM's I have access to as 2 of my very closest friends are Bryan Herter and Keith who own PCMForLess, so the tune and ECM part is no problem.

This engine is going into my 86 Mustang - currently has a 2 1/2 or 3" cowl hood on it so I should be ok with a taller intake.

The car was previously a turbo 306 and future plans are to go back to running a turbo - however, the pistons and rods would be replaced regardless. I want as much power as I can put out n/a in the meantime so it looks like the LQ9 is going to be the best route - according to what i've been reading.

Stock block 306 w/ 67mm Precision turbo, Redneck C4 with 15lbs boost the car made 525/626 and ran low 10's all day

Here's the car as it sat this year prior to SBF/C4/Turbo removal

I just got mine running a week ago, so it still has a long way to go for tuning.

LS2 heads - 243 castings (bumped up CR to 10.5)
Lunati cam 227/231 .651 lift
42lb injectors
stock LQ4 everything else with 78,000 miles on bottom end

It's a BEAST! Puts my previous 350 to shame (around 400/425 hp/tq at the flywheel)

still puts out 35PSI oil pressure at hot idle, and at cruising speed is up around 55PSI

What kinda tune do you have in it now those numbers seem kinda low to me for at the fly. I would expect atleast those at the tire with a fairly mild tune.

If you are swapping pistons then you could save your money and get the lq4.

400/425 is what the old 350 was at the flywheel. I dont know what the lq4 is putting out, but I know it's a lot more.

My LQ9 made 401rwhp 380rwtq. This was with 1 3/4 headers, LS6 intake, and a SLP crank pulley. Other than the listed items it is a stock LQ9. These numbers are through a T56. Cam specs are 228/232 .588/.574 on a 112.
