Default Starting my 70 Chevelle LS1 Conversion

Hello. Just thought I would post up the start of what is expected to be a somewhat long project. But I know I will love it in the long run. Here is my 70 Chevelle that the LS1 is going into. I will post more pictures as I progress. Any help with mounts, pan, headers, etc... I am new to the LS scene. What I have is a 98 LS1 from a T/A WS6 car. I am also going to run a M21 close ratio 4 speed that I have already. Maybe one day plan to change to a T56 or something, but for now I plan on running the Lakewood conversion bellhousing, the stock mechanical clutch set up, and my tried and true well built M21. Thanks and I hope you enjoy the pics as they come...

Ill skip to the best parts...Fresh from paint!!! But still missing a few painted pieces. Oh well.

Welcome. At the top of the forum section, is a sticky that lists a lot of A-Body project cars.. most will have some links in there Sig...
https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...2-gm-body.html

For mounts, There are endless places and a few styles of mounts. Many are marketing
Kits.. If your going to use your old M21 and clutch setup, I would recommend using 1" setup to keep the engine flange in line with the location of the M21 and bell housing.

I would recommend that you stay with the same manufactor of mounts (style) and headers. Mix and matching will just cause you problems in the long run.

I can be a bit tough to use the old style Z-Bar Clutch setup due to the block not having a place for the Ball Stud. Header can be in the way.. But a few have rigged up something if you are set on using the Old Z-Bar Clutch setup.

Good luck and keep the thread, posts and pictures coming.

No new pictures yet. I did however get some parts yesterday. I now have Edelbrock mounts, Edelbrock headers, GM Muscle car pan kit (which look like a H3 pan from the pictures), new starter, a recomended Sachs flywheel from Oreillys, and a pilot bearing from an LS7. Its not much, but its a start. Maybe I can get it test fitted in the engine bay this weekend...

One other thing, I also got the rest of my body parts back from paint. Now I can start putting things back together.

That muscle car kit pan hangs pretty low I think. There is a lot to consider but reading all of the build threads in the sticky helps.

A good article on cluch fork geometry and getting the correct throwout bearing. I'll be setting mine up this week, but with your truck bell housing, yours might be different.

I plan to keep the factory ride. As long as it does t drag the ground like a 64 nova with a Moroso pan, then I should be good. I'm not sure yet if I'll have any steering issues with the pan yet

I was going to order the Edelbrock Carb Swap but reading a lot of threads on here and with big help from people on this forum, I have decided to run the injection. It will actually be cheaper in the long run considering I have most of the parts already. Right now, I am about $600 away from being able to start this thing. Considering things go well with the install.
