Default LY6 mated to a T56

For anyone who has done this swap, what starter did you use?
LY6 mated to a T56 out of a 2005 GTO with an LS7 clutch setup

I just finished installing my clutch behind the LY6 and mounted up the bellhousing. When I tried to install the LY6 starter, it wouldn't fit. If I pull the bellhousing off, the starter will mate up fine and work with my LS7 flywheel.
But the area where the bellhousing bumps out to allow the starter in is about a half inch too high.
So did anyone shave the bellhousing or use a different starter?

Thanks guys
Jim

I'm pretty sure the GTO bellhousings are different and require a GTO starter. I had an LS1 and starter out of an '04 GTO but my T56 and bellhousing were from an F-body and the GTO starter didn't fit. I resolved it by going with a 6.0 truck starter. The starter from at least the '04 GTO was a Mitsubishi unit that doesn't crossreference with the F-body units. Pretty sure your easiest/cheapest fix is to get the F-body bellhousing. GTO starters are more expensive and harder to come by used. Not sure if the '04 GTO starter/bellhousing crosses with the '05 up GTO stuff.
