Default ls2 in 79 camaro alternater hitting pitman

hey everybody,
i have installed my ls2 t56 in my 79 camaro. i used brp mounts trans cross member and headers everything went in well besides the headers shooting up into the floorboards. im having an issue with the alternator hitting the pitman arm of the box. i switched the alt out for the 99 to 02 alt and it clears but i dont see getting a nut on the top. are guys cutting into the alt? has anyone had this problem or is the bracket different too and i need to change that as well .i read on s&p they did a swap on a 80 firechicken and used the gto alt. also the plug on the gto is a 2 wire while the f body is a 4 any help there would be cool

from what ive seen most guys either grind down the nut after its on, or swap to a trans am arm, which has more of a drop than a camaro for some reason?

IIRC on the second Gen most swap in a Trans am pitman arm to clear the alternator. Dont grind the nut swap the arms out, they're cheap enough.

It should just be a Pitman arm for a 79 T/A. It'll be about an inch shorter but have a bend that'll bring the Center link down a little and miss the Alternator. You can reference a ton of Thread on NastyZ28.com regarding this.

yep the correct ones are not reproed last i heard, an 80 t/a might have a correct arm as well, somewhere in 79/80 they changed the front steering again, and the 80 stuff is even cheaper..... check out www.transamplus.com he sells alot of suspension components....
