Default 6.0/5.3ls1 swap into 96 chevy Truck. worth it?

I have a 96 chevy silverado with the stock 5.7 vortec and a 5-speed manual transmission. Just looking for some thoughts on if this swap is worthwhile or if just hopping up the stock motor would be better/cheaper? I was leaning towards the 6.0 if I did do a swap. Thanks

The problem with your stock engine is that you cant get better injectors because it uses spider injectors, and i dont think you can get bigger ones. If you do too much you you would have to switch to some kind of intake that used regular injectors. I think it would be a cool truck to do the swap in. I have a 96 5.7 5 speed as well.

Trans is a NV3500.
I've also got a 96 5.7 5 spd!
If the stock engine didn't run so darned good I'd jump into a 6.0 or 6.2 and a 6spd.
Mods
MPFI upgrade, V-max spacer, bad pcm tune, 1.6 rollers and bee hive spring.
Next will be long tubes, maybe a 411 pcm and better tune, electric fan-should add a bit of pep and free up some ponies....When I hit about 200K miles, an Ls engine will be put in.
Also, I've yet to read about a 4X4 with a 6 sp, and the NV 3500 is not the toughest trans.......so consider the cost of another better trans for the future, like a nv4500 with a steep 6:1 1st gear, or adapt your NV, or get an LS series NV.....or a TKO 500/600.....Mines 2wd so a 6er will be easy.

BTW the injectors are good for around 400 hp(helps to have the MPFI injector assembly), if you want more get a marine intake-than sky's the limit--the only problem with the old Vortec engines is cost/difficulty to mod and the minimal gains(marine intake=1000$ and fabbing to get it in). The Vortec intake and injectors will hit around 400 hp (400 hp in a 383 ci / or high winding 350=bad in a heavy truck IMHO) after thousands of dollars have been invested-than expect lousy MPG.

The Ls platform in stock 6.0 will be near 400 hp with headers and a tune...and get decent mpg in a 1500 series.
keep us posted, and if you do it, take detailed notes for me
