Agreed. But I'm function over form, so I won't miss that motor even the slightest. I almost wish it wasn't an original numbers matching motor that way I wouldn't feel bad selling it or junking it. Now I have to keep it in my garage and let it collect dust for the next 40 years.

I'll see what it looks like when I get the rest of the drivetrain in. It's actually not as low as it looks, but I'm with you, I still don't like it. I may end up pulling it out and shortening the pan and pickup tube. Or maybe I'll do it next winter.

Good fit , mut I need to fab up a trans crossmember.
Awesome. It'd be cool to get all the LS A-bodies in New England together at some point.

I'd love to see some pics of the Canton pan, although at this point, I'll probably just mod the pan I have.

Good luck with your project, sounds like your getting close!!! I can't wait to fire mine up.....I'm shooting for early July.

Here are a few shots of the pan and the headers in the car. I have the engine set down as far as I can to gain all the hood clearance I can get to minimize modification to clear the blower.

Great project! I am doing a similar swap with a 2008 GEN IV 5.3 in a 66 chevelle. Having clearence problems and am trying to find out how much the GM Muscle Car Pan would lower the engine from the stock truck pan....any chance you could measure the GM pan at the sump so I can compare? I like the pan but want to make sure I get enough gain for the swap.

I'm pretty sure the dimensions for both pans are listed in the LSX oil pan thread (Sticky).

https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...-oil-pans.html

If I remember correctly though, the truck pan is 8.75" deep and the muscle car pan is 7.75"......or something close to that.

Good luck with your project.....sounds awesome!

Have you tried turning your steering from lock to lock? It sure looks like those tie rods are going go hit the pan.

I notched the pan for clearance.....it's good to go. They barely, barely hit the unmodified pan though. I'd say I only needed 1/8" extra on driver's side and 1/4" extra on the passenger side.

I just noticed you have a canton pan with a standard location oil filter adapter. Nice. I did not know that was available.

Great build thread! That oil pan below the crossmember scares me to death especially on a P-T car. Keep the updates coming!

Yup. Sorry for not keeping this thread updated.

The car is done. I actually drove it about 75 miles last weekend, but I had an issue with my TKO-600. It's a long story, but the short version is that I damaged it last fall at the track. There may have been some operator error involved and a massively missed shift. It's at the transmission shop right now getting fixed. It'll be done on Monday and I'll have it re-installed Tuesday night.

I was scheduled for a dyno tune last Saturday morning, but then the trans became very unhappy on Friday. I'm attempting to re-schedule for next weekend but have yet to hear back from my dyno guy.

The PSI wiring harness was awesome. I'd recommend it to anyone.

The engine runs really good at part throttle, but desperately needs a tune. It has a 6.0L LQ4 truck tune in it now (25lb/hr injectors), but I'm running the LS3 intake with 42lb/hr injectors. At WOT, it runs like crap. I'm assuming it's just pig rich.

I can't wait to get it tuned and stand on it! I'm very curious what kind of RWHP numbers I'll see as well. I'm guessing mid-high 300's, but we'll see.

I know this post sucks without any pics. I'll post a bunch of pics later this weekend or sometime next week.

Good luck with the dyno tomorrow! I'm sure I saw it in here but what did you do for a fuel supply? I'm thinking you went tanks inc? If so how is it and how loud is it? I still have to figure that out for mine as well as radiator, fans and trans cooler. Thanks BJ

I don't see your front sway bar..
What size tires are you running?
Why not 3" pipes?

Thanks!

For now, I went with the cheap, less-than-ideal fuel system method.......just an inline Walbro 255. Next year, I'm putting in a SS tank from Rick's or Rock Valley, but for now it just wasn't in the budget. I can deal with keeping the tank above 1/2 for now. Here's a pic......nothing new.

Front sway bar is there, it's just barely out of the pic, towards the front of the car. You can actually see a small portion on the passenger side.....including the end link. It's stock.

Front tires are 245/45 on 17x8s, 4.75" backspacing.
Rear tires are 285/40 on 17x9.5, 6.375" backspacing.

I'm pretty sure dual 2.5" pipes will support up to 600HP, maybe more. I did consider it, especially since I have future blower plans. But I didn't want to deal with ground and over-axle clearance issues. Maybe I sacrificed a few HP up top, but some say the smaller pipes will give more torque down low? Could be a wash at my current HP level if you looked at the avg. power and torque. Who knows. 2.5 is defiintely fine for my current setup, which I'll run for a long time.

wait wait wait... you fit 285's in the rear?! did you massage that damn contour in the wheel well? I hear 275's are a stretch...

They fit, but it's really tight. On really, really hard corners.....I mean, to the point of oversteer.....it rubs a little. In hindsight, I probably would have gone with a 9" rim and 275s. There'd be plenty of room for that, assuming you get the backspacing correct. I could take a cutoff wheel and take a little off the inside fender lip, but then I'd have to run wheel spacers which would suck. If you got rid of that lip, there'd be plenty of room in there even for 285s....mabye bigger.

Wow, what a fun night last night! I'm very impressed and happy with the Dyno numbers. 391 peak RWHP. And that's with stock F-body manifolds, and only 87 octane which limited us to 22 degrees timing. Power is very flat between 5500 and 6500.

I've done it a few times before, but standing next to your car (or any car) during a 4th gear WOT dyno pull is pure motorhead glory.

If felt so good to stand on it and power-shift 2nd and 3rd last night. What a great feeling after months of work.

Final question: How long will my 8.2" 10 bolt Pontiac rear last?

-Jeff

LS motor overlayed on Pontiac 400 dyno pull. Interesting how good the 400 was between 3k and 4k RPMs. Better than the LS!
