Default doing ls1 swap and need help.

ok so im putting a ls1 in my 07 xrunner. the xrunner rack and pinnion calls for atf fluid and the ls1 pump calls for dot 3 ps fluid. is it ok to put atf fluid in the ps pump on the ls1. i have read that they are almost the same, but the atf fluid is better. or should i go the other way around and use dot 3 fluid in the rack

I'm not sure, but maybe it wont matter?

When I was a teenager I worked in a service station/gas station and I saw people put all kinds of fluids in the P/S: brake fluid, trans fluid etc. I always wondered why nothing ever blew up.

You prolly want dexron 3 not dot 3. The dot 3 is brake fluid which would destroy your seal and doesn't have very good lubricating properties. You can use atf and it will be fine.

i'd go with the atf. i've always used it on my cars that call for ps fluid. runs cooler.

edit: this has been my personal experience. im not sure if this holds true for all cars. you can always just try out the atf and stick a thermometer in there and see where it goes.

ATF III will foam up and vomit all over your engine bay in a Fbody PS pump. Ask me how I know

Still foams up in older PS pumps but doesnt go everywhere, maybe lower pressure, Im not sure. I ended up having to replace both pumps about a month later
