Default Stock LQ4 water pump with dual pass rad

I would like to convert my rad to dual pass to clean up the hose routing in my nova. In my research I have found out that it takes more pressure to pump through a dual pass because the coolant is confined to a smaller path. my concern is that the stock pump will have to work too hard and its life will be shortened. also since I will be modding the radiator my self by swapping the intake to the right side and putting a plate in the center of the right tank the flow will be less efficient than it would be in a unit designed to be dual pass. Any thoghts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Modifying the radiator seems ambitious, could you find another with the inlet on the other side?

I think the load on the pump itself and the power would be negligible, maybe 3.5 horsepower rather than 3 horsepower?

just my .02

I cant afford another rad right now but I think I can find someone to tig my old one for me plus I like doing things the hard way.
Does anyone have a dual pass on their swap?

We use dual passes on most swaps, it always makes for a cleaner installation and better cooling. I'm gonna say it would be simpler to just buy one also though, a couple hundred bucks will get you one and you dont have to spend the labor time (or money) and you can sell off your existing radiator.

You are worrying about nothing. Water pumps live just fine pumping against a closed thermostat on a cold engine. That is way more restriction than any radiator ever will cause.

I bought a new aluminum double pass radiator from Speedway for $179.99.

I am using a 31x19 dual pass radiator on my 79 Malibu swap. Haven't had the engine and radiator in at the same time, but it fits pretty snug in there. I think you would be much better off getting a new rad vs modifying one.
