Default Starting the LM7 / volvo 245 wagon swap

Wasn't going to bother post this, but since I need 50 posts to make the mark for classifieds, I guess I'll start bombing.

The car: 1987 Volvo 245 station wagon

The engine: 200? LM7 longblock from Certified Auto Recycling (AL)

Items I need:
6.0L truck flexplate and spacers
67mm turbo (Holset)
custom radiator
biggest intercooler I can fit
BOV
driveshaft

more later,
D

I have a flexplate/spacer from my 2004 LQ4 that had a 4L80E (6 converter lugs). LMK. I'll let it go cheap.

Definitely interested in the flexplate.

Looking for something aluminum for the intake, like a weiand ls6 type or a top feed (like the edlebrock style). Truck type is too tall.

The parts list is getting bigger. My summit cart is filling up, and my front porch will be seeing a lot of postal traffic this week.

I still have to drop off the TH400 by the transmission shop. It had a shuttering issue when it was in the Supra. The custom torque converter somehow got out of balance and made the input shaft walk around a bit. Hopefully this will be a cheap fix. It was built a while back with a RMVB TCI unit, already has a baller Lokar dipstick tube, and a nice shifter (Megashifter I think).

I'm going to make a point to have something accomplished every day until it is complete. I need to get this thing running and in the 10's this summer; the supra couldn't seem to break the 11.0 barrier.

Subscribing...just starting an L33 swap into my 87 Volvo 245. Another B230/M47 on the market (northeast)! Haha

There's this build out there, too, in case you haven't seen it or are interested. I'm taking a different route with engine placement and mounting. http://warrensweb.com/volvo/index.htm

Cool project. What are you doing for a rear end/ suspension setup?

I have heard about guys using the ford explorer 8.8 disc brake axle and doing a budget narrowing to it for use in the Volvo 240's. Those rear ends have unequal length axles so you get a second short axle from the j-yard and cut and shorten the long tube the difference in the short vs long axle. About 3" you end up with a 31 spline LSD disc brake rear end with your choice of 373 or 410 gears. I did one for a buddies 55 2door post with a lm7 in it. Came out good.

noticed that GM erroneously installed the exhaust manifolds to dump in the rear

as I was pulling them off, i sheared one of the bolts flush with the head. tried to extract with an easy-out and broke it off. got that out with a carbide rotary file then extracted the screw with a modified easy-out. 1.5 hours for a 5 minute job.

replaced the bolts with grade 10.9 bolts. we'll see how long that lasts

that crossmember info is really good to know; i'll drop the motor in this week to see if I have to go to great measures to modify the crossmember

got a few clearance issues to work out: the oil pan sump is hitting the back of the crossmember, the left manifold is really close to the steering shaft, and the trans tunnel at the firewall will need 'adjustment'.

I think I'm going to notch the crossmember around the front of the sump on the pan, which should allow the engine to roll forward.
