74 NOVA LQ9. Going AWD
#61
you finally replaced the TAC module?
I finally got the nova aligned (lifetime alignment at firestone. wish i'd done that before i rebuilt the front end 5 times...), but haven't started on the VA kit or deadener yet. i'm going to try to keep her roadworthy while doing the work, since it's almost cool enough to drive.
FYI, I changed all the fluids in my Grand Cherokee this weekend, checked out the 4-wheel drive system while I was under it. you're right about AWD seeming to be fairly simple (at least in this case). Maybe a couple sensors for torque management, but that could likely be disabled pretty easily.

The Nova is running amazing, i drive it every day to work and am Getting just over 20MPG.
I still havent talked the wife into driving along side me for 2 miles so i can set the speedo.
This weekend should be nice, maybe the following weekend we should cruise to show or two.

hey, how's that Tanks Inc setup working out for ya? I'm thinking of selling the fuel cell rather than making a rear firewall. Here's what I've got:
OEM tank from Rock Auto: $150
Straps: $25
Have Allen fab it up for me: $50 (I think he said less, but I may opt for a more elaborate setup)
Tanks Inc in-tank PA-series setup: $235
Sell fuel cell: $-200
Sell Walbro 255: $-60
Boom, right around $200 for trunk space and NHRA legality! Or, I may steal shamelessly from frojoe's idea (w/ Aeromotive 340 pump). Maybe I'll give Allen a jingle and see what he can whip up.

There hasnt been a single problem with the fuel system at all. and looks completely stock.
My Input shaft in my transmission just broke. Getting on the freeway this morning going to work. I guess im gonna have to get the Raptor input shaft and drum. I figured a 1500 rebuild would hold more than 3000 miles.

I took the factory cluster out of the bezel so i can make my own Autometer Gauge panel.
I cut a piece of 16Ga sheet metal 17"X7", then lined up the top holes where the factory cluster and drilled the sheet.
I also trimmed the plastic under the stock cluster where the dummy lights were. that way i can have the room for the 5" gauges.
Not sure why people would pay so much for new panels when i will only have 2 hours total into this and cost me zero dollars, i got the sheet metal from AZ Kustom Koncepts, a local Fab shop. He had tons of scrap pieces and just gave me one.
It wont be perfect but for the money i think its worth it. Plus i might bring this to that fab shop when im done and see if he can make it a little nicer by blending some of the areas in better to the Bezel, and maybe we can start selling these.
I will post some pics of it tomorrow.

Sounds like an interesting project I am starting up an AWD street Jeep project soon, with an old 1969 CJ6 and an LS3. I looked into the different t-cases, ended up with a BW4472 from a bravada, same as in the Typhoons. It should hold to 500HP that the LS3 makes, based on what the sy/ty guys are doing, and I'll be lighter. I'll be running a built 700R4.

Man, an AWD conversion project sounds cool as HELL! I think about doing that from time to time, that's the one thing that I'd really like to add to my GTA - but I suspect I should get it running in it's current iteration before adding any more on to the project...
Definitely going to be following this thread, & the next time the wife & I are in PHX, I'll probably make an effort to check your car out!

Since i drive my Nova Everyday for work i put the AWD system on hold and am watching and taking notes from the AWD camaro that is on this site. But i Bought a 74 Jeep CJ5 that im going to make AWD as well. once im done with the Jeep i will make the Nova AWD.

Nothing Yet, I started a Jeep CJ5 Build, But i was offered 3 times what i have into it to sell it, So im going to sell the jeep and put that money in the Nova.
First will be a vintage air system, then a Nitrous outlet kit. Then we will see, because that about covers what im selling the Jeep for.

Yeah, I can see why it would be hard not to sell it. I've done the same in the past....
When you get back to the guts of the AWD conversion, it's gonna seam like a pretty big project by itself. And if you stick with it, just start buying the big parts 1st. Bolt them all togather for your measurements, and figure out what you're cutting out.
Once you start cutting, the hard part is over. You're commited from there. Good luck with your build.
