Default 4.3 Tranny from a 94 Blazer...will it handle the power of a 5.3?

Just curious, I found a 4L60e on CL pretty cheap and supposed to be in good shape. I need something to get my car going.

I have the flywheel parts to mate this to my engine correctly so physically I can bolt it on no problem.

Not sure if the 5.3 will blow up this tranny? I don't plan on racing this car or driving it hard...this is more of a cruiser and maybe a burnout occasionally....but nothing crazy.

If you build it, it will be ok. If it is stock you will kill it quickly. I have a 96 Blazer and it is bone stock. It has 230k on it and has been through 3 transmissions in that time and that is driving it easy. Im not hard on it because it is slow and I have other cars if I want to go fast. A 4L80E would be your best bet if you can find one.

Electronic trans - how are you going to trigger the solenoids?

I was going to let the PCM from the 5.3 control it

Make sure you get the proper year trans for your computer. I know there were some changes with the electronics internally with the 4l60e.

My engine and PCM is from a 2004 sierra 5.3...the actual transmission I ended up with came from a 2004 Trailblazer I6 engine and computer. I passed on the 4.3 tranny

I hope there aren't any major differences with what I ended up buying. I do know I need to swap out the I6 bellhousing but I have the covered. I bought a used V8 bellhousing from a 5.3 with the 12 oclock holes.

4.3 trans would have worked physically with the spacer... BUT for PCM control the trans has to be a 1996 or newer.

I've never studied the I6 trans so I can't say if you'll need the spacer or not.

That's overkill on a 5.3l..he wont kill a 4L60E unless he's making pretty good power from the 5.3l.
