Arrow Having trouble starting new motor

I just finished installing my 383 ls1 in my 02 camaro. Filled it with fluids went to start it and nothing. After looking closer I seen that on the drivers side harness where the u2 sensor is there is a big flat ground strap. I pulled on it and it broke out of the harness. So I have two questions

1. Where does it bolt to?

2. Where does it connect to in the harness?

that ground attaches to the motor and to the frame rail. It only runs through about 6" of harness just enough so when they put the harness in at the factory its already there but that wont keep it from starting.

Sounds like you forgot to run the proper ignition/start power

If it's down by the starter it's the crank sensor. If it's near the back of the intake it's the cam sensor.

Have you tried barring it over by hand?
Is the heavy gauge ground wire connected to the block?

Given the limited information, it sounds like the starter is stalled or has no ground...

The heavy gauge ground wire where? I got the flat one on the drivers side connected. Once I try to start it I lose all power

The battery negative should be attached to the passenger side of the block

I thought that went to the starter. I'll move it and give it a try.

Think about it, you have 250 to 300 amps going through the starter circuit. If you don't have the usual block ground (i. e. the heavy gauge strap or wire), the starter current will be trying to find it's path back to the battery by any other available means. So you could conceivably toast your ECM or harness by trying to push those amps through the tiny grounds in the harness when you key to start. That is 'almost' a dead short happening!

I appreciate it guys, I ground the block from the battery and it came to life! Thanks for everything!
