Default l92 malibu 10 seconds

Alright got a 2 door malibu thats been lightend up a lil bit with glass bumpers and removed heater. plan on dropping a complete l92 motor in it with ls3 intake and vvt3 cam by mast with a 3200 stall in th400 or 3600 stall in 4l80. Rear gear with th400 would be 3.90 and with the 4l80e would likely be 4.10 or 4.30s. Do You think this combo could get me into the 10s? What would I have to do the l92 motor other than the vv3 cam to get there other than headers injectors and cold air intakes? May sound dumb but this is my goal and I want to know what needs to be done before I get knee deep in a 12 secind car.

Though i wish you luck on the 10sec path. I try not to put an expectation on what a car will run. It normally leads to dissapointment.

I had a BBC in my Monte and couldnt get it to run better that a 12.4
we put that engine in my friends nova with a back half and a trans brake. it ran 10.02.

There are a million variables.
Keep your head up 10s are in the cards. If not, Give it some throttle in a bottle.

Really need to know what it will weigh. From there you at least will have an idea of the power needed.

At 3400 lbs, you'll need 530 hp (crank) for a 10.80 run.

Well Being that the car doesn't have a motor in it I can only go off of educated guesses. I know a stock malibu is in the 3400lb range So lets lose 75lbs on bumpers then lose another 175lbs on an all aluminum motor vs. all cast iron sbc we get a total weight of 3150 and let just say its 3200 to be safe. So what do you guys think need to happen to the motor to achieve these goals.

I'd like to know more about this setup, my old man had a 408 BBC with ported iron heads in his 78 Malibu with a TH400 that turned 10.47 N/A. He's moved up to a 463 BBC with the same heads and trans since.

Ok you got me, we did Switch out the cam from the 575hyd flat tap comp nitrous to a high 600s solid roller.
Engine.
454 bored .010
Stock steel crank
Truck rods
JE 10.8 to 1 Comp Forged Pistons
Merlin VR Race Heads
Super Victor Intake
1150 Dominator

In the Monte it was all tq and no HP with that cam without the Bottle. But even with the Bottle it wouldnt rev enough to pull through the traps. Half track it would run out of RPMs and only gain 3mph from about half track to the 1/4 mile. From 109mph to 112.

With the new cam we have seen dramatic RPM Increases from 5k to 7500+
The engine was well balanced. Now trap MPH are around 140mph.

even on a tire its still having trouble launching footbrake. We havent tried the transbrake yet. We are putting 10.5Ws on it and bringing track bite next time. Hopefully we can even spray on it. Should go low 9s

So my anology isnt perfect. but when we just swapped engines as is it went into mid 11s as it was. The the Monte was all stock suspension minus the Moser 12 bolt with a spool and 411s. and pulled the front sway bar. It was a T-Top car.

^ Apples to Oranges, I would think a Stock L92 in a light malibu and correct conv and gears should get close stock, Id say easy with a good cam... you already have the motor?
