Look around on this forum, LOTS of good info.
You can learn how from all of out mistakes, LOL.

If you are going for a 6 speed, a package motor/trans is probably a good start.
Look for a Camaro/Firebird pull-out with wiring and ECM.

One thing that I have learned and many others as well, it can turn to be much more of a head-ache (not to mention more $$$) when you try to piece things together.
Also, getting the stock hardware and not going to Ace for 300 different metric bolts helps save time, aggravation, crossed treads and all out frustration.

But again, check out what others have done.
If you wanted to boost an aluminum 5.7, all you need is some new head gaskets and studs. They can hold the power.

Also, keep the compression up a little.
Going below 9:1 on the street makes for a doggy start.

But a 5.7 + MP T70 + T56 is very very fun.
You can really make some jaws drop if you keep it stock appearance and quiet.
