Default 67 RS voltage regulator post swap

Car ran fine until I installed the rest of my engine harness and relays for both the horn and hide away headlight components. Running the batt wire to the C5 alternator, but don't have any of the voltage regulator wired plugged in. Everything is new and appears to be wired properly (lights open & close).

Now the car is hard to start and backfires initially and then misses bad. All grounds are as they were before when the car ran great. Could it have something to do with the RS pieces drawing too much voltage and thus robbing the ECM? Do I need to re-wire the factory voltage regulator a certain way versus just leaving the connector loose? Other thoughts... Tks.
