Hey all just curious what starting motor I can use on my LQ4? It’s in a 1980 corvette and I’m keeping the 4 speed stock transmission. The engine is mounted to the transmission using a 621 BBC bellhousing. What starters would work for this application?

If you're using the Sachs truck or 98-02 f body flywheel, the starter from your year LQ4 will work as long as it's a short crank. You might have to clearance the 621 starter pocket a little.

I did use the the LS1 flywheel I should have clarified that in the post sorry about that. Thanks for the information Gary!

Just a note, 99-00 LQ4s had a long crank and wont work.

Thanks again Gary. Mines out of an 04 with aluminum heads, I passed over the iron head options we had.

There was only ever one LS iron head, and it was on the first few years of the LQ4.

Yup I thought it was the 99-2000. Seen a couple and opted for the 04 version with the aluminum heads
