Default Diesel Trans Am?

I know with "enough money" anything can be done...but is it possible to to bolt up say... the 6.6L Duramax diesel engine to a T-56 and into a T/A? Discuss..

You probably can, but I would think the T-56 would be shredded by the torque without some serious beefing up. Then you'll also need a clutch to hold it. Lots of people have swapped Duramax engines into cars, but I think they usually use the transmission that comes with it. Do a search on YouTube for Duramax Chevelle.
FYI, the engine is HUGE. Bolting it up is one thing. Physically getting it in the car is another.

Dont know if you can beef up the front end enough to hold the weight.

I would agree with all of this. I can't see a T-56 liking the torque, if it could keep it in the power band. Also, I don't think you could physically stuff one in a late model car. I much more educated and informed on the diesel scene than I am with my T/A (but that will change soon) and I haven't seen one stuffed in a late model sports car of any kind (I have seen 1 or 2 4BT Cummins floating around in smaller cars). They have started to stick them in the old muscle cars. One in say, a 79 T/A would be badass.

On another subject, anyone wanna buy a rust-free 79 in project condition?

How about a Saturn V? They already are diesels.
(The F1 engines run on Kerosene, not Hydrogen. It's called RP-1. It's similar to jet fuel)

There is a duramax camaro project floating around on here. Last I saw it he was shooting for 800 horse and 1200 lb/ft torque in a fourth gen. This was at least 2 years ago so I don't know if he is still going with it.

The ignorance of diesel is strong in this thread, luke skywalker.

The Duramax weighs about 840lbs. An 8.1L big block weighs 865lbs. Iron LT1 weighs about 500lbs....a Duramax isn't *that* heavy.

Duramax uses a standard V8 Chevy bolt pattern, so a T56 will bolt up. It should do a decent job of handling the power, with the right clutch. Most Duramax stick shift trucks came with a shitty dual-mass flywheel from the factory, so that is something to watch out for. The real trans. killer with diesels is low-RPM impulse torque.

The allison is huuge, it won't fit in most car/Dmax swaps, and takes a 2" body lift to fit it in a stock Silverado, so a TH400, built 'glide, or maybe a built 4L80E would be better, depending on what you want to do with the car.

The engine is wide as *** too, it has 4 valves per cylinder. Everything else might not be an issue if you can't squeeze the engine in the car.

The Duramax Block is pretty similar to the 6.0l Ironblock..I saw one the other day at the machine shop. The Heads are massive..like mentioned.

You could track down the truck 6 speed if you've got really deep pockets.. I can't remember the model designation but it's a ZF something or other. They were behind duramaxes for a few years and the 8.1 liters. But from what I hear, that transmission is huge so I doubt you could fit it into an Fbody.

Thanks for the informative post. I'm just slightly interested in the thought of a diesel in my Trans Am maybe one day. What other V8 diesel options are there that could fit (or what is the measurements on the Duramax?)?

Is there a reason u want a diesel? I work on diesel vehicles and equipment for a living.but I would not bother retrofitting a large diesel in a car. If tq is wut u seek, a big block will pretty much drop in ur ta, bolt up to a LT1 type t56.
I'm sure that big block motor will be more than adequate. And lower priced than a diesel
