Default LS6/T-56 swap: '71 El Camino

Finally got the project underway a few months ago. Hopefully starting a build thread will help keep things moving along. I'm kind of lazy.

Nice! What oil pan are you using? 1" set back mounts or 1" forward? or stock location? Keep it coming!!

the shifter looks like a CTS-V T-56, so I'm guessing he got a dropout from a CTS-V. That pan works pretty well in the Chevelle/El Camino Frame. Deffinately looks like the BRP style mounts and they look setback to me.

Yes, engine and transmission from an '05 CTS-V. Couldn't say how far set back/forward it is. Seems like I had to cut more of the transmission tunnel than the chevelle swaps I've seen here.
Right now I'm trying to figure out the master cylinder situation. Do I need to replace the slave cylinder too, and if not, can I connect the new master to the slave without having to separate the engine and transmission.

Have to take the engine back out. Ordered a new clutch master & slave cylinder. Trying to work out fuel system next. It looks like I can get a stock '95 Caprice sending unit and put it in my stock fuel tank with the Racetronix fuel pump. Thoughts?

Installed new throwout bearing, and clutch master, replaced brake booster. The engine and trans are still separated. I want to clean up the fire-wall and redo all wiring, but I have yet to formulate a plan. Does anyone make stock items like headlights, wiper motor, heater, etc for A-body but with modern connections? I wou...Oh no, pictures! And how would oil be leaking into my bell housing?

installed steering gearbox, wasn't sure it would fight, but it does; all right.! Next issue is a new rag joint. will I be able to remove the flange on the steering shaft or will I have to cut it? I think I've the fuel system planned out too.

Rear main cover or seal leaking?

Could it be your throwout bearing leaking clutch fluid?

Nooooooooo!!!!! *sigh*.....maybe, someday I will correct my abhorent level of procrastination. Right now, it cost me again. There was a great deal on a fuel tank and pump from a camaro on ebay motors, but no more. On the bright side I have occasion to use this emoticon:

Have you checked out the tanks inc setup and just use your existing tank?

I just ordered a tank and sending unit from a LS1 camaro; $160 delivered from cleveland pick-a-part. Looking at racetronix for pump upgrade.

started to put suspension back together. I took some metal to the scrap yard and I think my old steering arms were in there, so that's now holding up progress. Ordering replacements from OPGI. Also, does it look like I'm missing anything between the brake booster and master cylinder? and on the transmission front I found this thread :

http://www.performancetrucks.net/for...nstall-485277/

I already have that style of offset lever; so can I just buy a new short throw shifter and fab up some adapter plate? Thanks.

Make sure to check the depth of the socket in the M/C to make sure that the booster pushrod will just make contact at static position. It looks like your booster pushrod is adjustable to compensate for the various M/C depths. Otherwise it looks correct, sometimes you will find a rubber boot in the booster. It really wont matter if it is there.

I'm stuck on high pressure line from the steering pump to steering box. I don't think this banjo fitting will fit. Do I need to move the pump...?

I used the tank from my '99 camaro in my '96 ls1/s10 install and it worked great. I mounted it behind the axle to help with traction and lighten the truck a bit.
