Turns out they're using one of each manifold---Corvette manifold on driver's side, F-body on passenger side.

Latest progress report:
  • Harness done
  • Fuel system done
  • Exhaust & heat shielding fabrication in progress
  • got a lead on a 3.5" C4 exhaust system to replace the stock one
  • latest measurement shows the car 1 1/2" higher due to lighter engine---received and approved quote to lower it.

Looks good. Are you planning on eventually putting A/C back in after the swap is complete and running? How are they handling the steam line?

AC is part of the project & will be worked on soon. My thinking was to keep the car stock, but with an LS3, if that makes any sense. Kinda the '87 C4 they would have built if that engine were available then. So cruise and AC have been in the project spec from the git-go.

We discussed the steam line a while back---I think around the time you or Ch@Os posted some pics of your setup---but I forget exactly what was said. I believe they have a T-fitting of some sort on hand they're going to use.

Sorry, it took a while to get this:

They're getting close. Finished lowering it to compensate for the weight loss. Driver's side exhaust should be hooked up this weekend. Still shopping for a manifold to use on the passenger's side. (Getting the EROD CATs to fit has been a real problem.) Kwik AC bracket ordered, will be tight if it fits at all.

    Default Tailshaft housing question

I noticed that you decided to change out the 4L70E's 2wd tailshaft housing for the 700R4's housing + adapter. Was that to avoid a custom driveshaft?

Yes, with the old tailshaft adapter everything just bolts right up.

Sorry I haven't been keeping this thread up to date. The exhaust issue was resolved by using the C6 manifold on the driver's side and a C5 manifold on the passengers. It ain't pretty but everything's installed---just hope the BAR referee approves.

    First start is imminent.

if you didn't do it that way ,you would need an adapter to bolt the c-frame to .

    It's running:

Any tips on how to get a CA temporary operation permit? I paid the registration fee but couldn't get it smogged 'cause it's out of state and didn't have an engine in it. Probably should have non-op'ed it.

So...I'm afraid I've been neglecting this thread, sorry.

I took delivery late October 2013 and have been working on a few final details---bank lean codes, brake light issues, final wiring of the cruise control, and replacing a failed fuel pump and sending unit.

I took it to the CA BAR Referee and passed emissions, but he dinged me on several visual issues and my O2 monitor hadn't cleared so there was still a history bank lean code.

I've been talking with an engineer at GM and it sounds like I can push back on most of the visual dings.

I'd appreciate hearing from anyone else who has taken an EROD all the way through the system.

I was surprised to read, in the thread below, it's possible I could have skipped the ref entirely!?!?!

    So...

I had the monitor cleared, got a replacement for a missing CARB sticker and went back for another inspection. They passed everything but the TCI-EZ TCU, insisting I get an OEM TCU.

I got one of the new GM Connect and Cruze TCUs & went back for a third time and passed:

Congratulations. My E-Rod Monte Carlo still isn't finished and it's been under construction since late 2010. The good news is that it's almost done. Just waiting on the transmission controller to be programmed and the tune on the ECU. I ended up deleting the cats since my car is exempt from smog. I really wanted it to be smog legal because I paid for the E-Rod package, but I was running out of time and my bank account was getting smaller.
