Never heard of a Walbro having an internal regulator.

It's my understanding that the Walbro does have an internal bypass. See here for more info:

The internal bypass opens at something like 75psi to protect the pump, so it's a non-issue for NA guys with a properly-working regulator. But mixing in and return would deadhead the pump, causing the bypass to open and potentially damaging the pump itself. High pressure is not indicative of pump failure or internal bypass issues; that would manifest itself in low pressure.

Having the FPR on the firewall is more desirable, and what fueling manufacturers recommend. However, Aeromotive are adamant that the Vette FPR is insufficient with higher-flow pumps. Anecdotal evidence corroborates this, as I'm replacing a 2000-mile Stealth 340 as we speak.
