Default 1985 Cutlass 2006 5.3 and 4L60E

I started this after xmas. 1985 Olds Cutlass going from 3.8L buick V6 and TH200 trans to a 2006 5.3L and 4L60E trans. I also purchased a 1987 Regal Limited T-type for the 8.5" 10 bolt rear axle with 3.42 gears, fuel tank, exhaust and sway bars.
new engine and trans

old engine and trans

parts car

jegs crossmember (needed to relocate center section)

7.5" rear axle

8.5" rear axle installed

modified crossmember

electric fans

Dash getting ready for Intellitronix digital dash install

Engine installed with LS1 intake, 98 vette water pump and 4.3L ac bracket.
I'll probably not use the 4.3L bracket. I am going to fab new accessory brackets from 1/2" aluminum plate. I found a set of f-body stainless headers that should fit the car. The #5 primary tube needs to be moved inward to clear the steering column. The passenger side needs 3 of the primary tubes swapped at the collector to clear the trans and the frame.

Looking good! I'm doing the same swap to the same model car. I will be watching this build!

Intellitronix dash installed. I found a M12x1.5 water temp sender from Faria. I am still trying to get the speedomter to work.

L05 ac compressor bracket

Aluminum radsiator with electric fans

F-body stainless headers. The driver side had the #5 primary tube moved closer to the cylinder head. The passenger side had 3 primary tubes rerouted to clear the lower control arm mount.

Alternator lowered to clear hood and to move idler pulley for LS1 intake install.

X-pipe installed

very cool!

I really like the gauge cluster too. Out of curiosity, do you think it would have much glare? I might look into it for my swap.

It will be shrouded by the original dash panel plus the flash on my camera probably makes it glare. I've been talking with them about adding additional led's for the MIL, brake pressure, etc. and to make them more compatible with LS style engines. I had to add a resistor to get the tach signal and find a different temp sender. I still don't have the speedo working yet. They have been very helpful though.

The regal has been sold.

Tell me more about the a/c bracket. What year and motor is it off of?

AC bracket is off of a 90's 4.3L blazer. 95 LO5 350's in trucks also had a similar bracket. I changed the idler pulley to a larger diameter and reused the original compressor by changing from a v-belt to serpentine belt pulley.

The dash has turn signal and high beam indicators built in.

It's getting closer to being finished. I still need to have the harness braided, tune the pcm and install the cruise control.

How did you lower the alternator? What bracket did you use? Do you have any pics showing what you did to the bracket?

I made the alternator brackets out of 1/2" aluminum plate and 1" aluminum tubing for spacers. $90 for a 1'x2'x1/2" aluminum plate and $10 for the aluminum tubing for spacers. I cut the stock bracket above the powersteering pump and used 3 mounting points on the cylinder head to bolt the plates to.
