Default 2010 camaro SS LS3 starter for swaps

Anyone use a 2010 Camaro starter for their project? I'm wondering whats the diff between it (12617229) for $120 and the fbody/vette ls1/ls2 starters that run upwards of $300.. Any limitations in its power, weight, clearance, etc?

Thanks

One difference is the connector required for the 2010 starter versus the older starters which use standard ring terminals.

Any pics or leads on the required connector? For $180 I can get very creative...

$300,, damn man, you're buying your auto parts in the wrong place. f-body starters are about $100 at rockauto.com.

To clarify, I'm looking at brand new late-model ACDelco starters taking the 2 long mounting bolts, not the older version with 1 short and 1 long bolt. Thanks. New Delco ls1 starters are still $180 at rock auto...

Yes, very nice! Have you actually placed an order? Just wondering if a "backyard garage guy" could do so...

Not yet. Probably on next months credit card.. Lol

I think a brand new Delco ls3 starter for $120 including the connector, is a decent deal.

Just to close the loop on this..

My new 2010 Camaro LS3/L99 starter arrived today along with the pigtail and hardware.. Figured I'd try the stock heat shield out also since it wasn't much more $$ while I was ordering the stuff..

So a new ACDelco starter for $130 including the pigtail (but not the hardware) is a great deal IMHO.. YMMV

Where did you purchase for $130 w/ connector?

Does the pigtail just replace the ring terminal?

I get most all my GM factory parts from partszoneonline web site. (Out of Pittsburgh I believe, but I won't hold that against them.. ;-) j/k ) I saw some (12617229) on Ebay for as low as $107, but the seller didn't have the best rep for shipping out incorrect parts.. The pigtail (12101763) wasn't too bad either ($15) considering how much GM charges for some pigtails.. ($60 for a C6 DBW pedal pigtail.. phhhhhtttt)

The pigtail just gets soldered in place of the ring terminal on the harness.

Cool deal.. FWIW, my friend worked at a GM dealership and his employee pricing was the same as partszoneonline. They also ship at actual charges, not like some other online GM parts places..

I found that thread that started me searching for a 2-long bolt starter..

https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...ock-broke.html

Since I've personally seen 4 LS blocks with broken starter mounts, I figured there had to be something going on..

85MikeTPI, thank you for the information. I have the parts on order plus a couple of other items. I like the Nalley site for the parts schematics.
