Default Vette Accessory Drive - Anyone use a banjo fitting on power steering pump

I installed my GMPP Corvette accessory drive setup and they say you can use Russell's -6an to 16mm x 1.5 adapter, p/n 648060, but as those of you have tried it knows there is not enough clearance to tighten a fitting to it. I have a few options that I can think of...I like the last one...
  • Use a C6 line and have a hydraulic shop convert one end to -6AN.
  • Install a slightly large power steering pump pulley to gain clearance. I haven't even research this option to see if they make one, but this would also require a different belt.
  • Remove the power steering pulley, tighten line, then re-install pulley. It will work, but I really don't like this option. I shouldn't have to remove the pulley to take off the line.
  • Buy a 16mm to -6an banjo fitting, see link below. Has anyone used one of these? Will it clear the pulley? For $12.96 plus S&H I may just order one to find out

I see your dilema and I will be in the same soon as im using the same acc. drive system. The only thing that I see being a possible issues with a "banjo Fitting" is flow restriction. I would just take off the pulley and tighten the line. Once its all put together why would you need to remove it again? unless something broke.

I hear ya....what got me thinking about the banjo fitting is my Vintage Air Frontrunner uses one and I thought it could eliminate the work around of removing/re-installing the pulley. I don't think there would be a flow issue, but it is something to consider.

I always thought that you couldn't use the 6an with the vette pump but I remember seeing this thread. Check out post #12 not sure why or how it works for that guy...

Thanks for the link. I am already using the Russell's adapter and have tried it with an Aeroquip straight and 90 degree fitting. The ends are not the same length. The pic below shows the 90 is a little longer than the straight fitting, but it still wont clear.

Oh so close.....I will have to see if the Russell's -6 hose end, or any other brand, is shorter, but the Aeroquip will not clear.

Isn't the pic visible?
The stock corvette line was cut close to the pump fitting then a JIC fitting was brazed on. You can then bolt the rest of the line to the JIC fitting.

I had a similar issue with the corvette acc. on an LT4. I made a hard line. Attached the hard line to the p/s pump off the car. The hard line was routed to an area that I would easly attach a high pressure flex line. Similar to what as mentioned above.

Man, I had no trouble using the AN adapter on my '03 C5 FEAD. The only difference(s) on my setup is the early-style (solid) pulley and the use of a DSE flow/pressure reducing fitting in place of the GM outlet fitting.

Well I went with the DSE Power Steering Pump Outlet Fitting p/n 090401. It cost $18 plus $11 S&H (ouch)
http://www.detroitspeed.com/1967-196...tlt-fttng.html

This replaces the factory outlet fitting in the pump with a custom fitting that is converted to a -6AN.

Here is a side by side comparison. The DSE fitting on the right is about a good 1/4" shorter. Be careful when you remove the factory fitting as there is a spring and plastic cup that you don't want to lose.

Here is a pic with a 90 degree -6AN fitting installed. There is not a ton of clearance, but it will work without removing the pulley.

I used a -6 90 adapter, threaded it onto the Russell adapter loose, then installed the Russell adapter onto the pump, then tightened the 90. Its very close, but it wont hit.

I tried that, but it just wouldn't clear the pulley.

Anyone ever try the banjo fitting? Seems like it may be a good solution!

Nm, didn't have the correct 0-ring fitting. Annoying GM fittings.
