Default Old guy,,new to ls world..need help with 2 projects

Hello all,
I am very new to the ls world, so please be gentle with me. I am trying to put a LS version of a t56 in a 1949 chevy truck, no problem with mounting or any of that stuff, i just need to know where to get an adapter plate wo i can bolt it up to a sbc. It looks like it needs to be about 3/8 to 1/2 of an inch thick so the input shaft will work. I would like to use the hydrolic clutch and all the t56 that i have. Any Help would be great. I am also doing a LS and 6 spped in a 1966 chevy II, but those questions will come later, after i finish the truck.

Default T-56

Before you try and adapt everything. You might want to trade that t-56 for the older lt-1 version which should bolt up to your small block. They are less desireable and you might make some cash on the trade.

Not unless one wants to buy a very expensive flywheel! The LT1 T56 does not play well with a pre 87 two piece seal block, there are a number of companies that offer the adapter plate to use with the LS1 T56,a quick google should find one of them.

This plate will adapt an older sbc bell to the t56, is that what you're looking for?

If you're adapting the ls1 bell, I'm not aware of a direct spacer but I've seen the McLeod ring of their 3pc bell used in that way.

I would disagree, the LT1 t56 will bolt up and work just fine with a 2pc rear main. I had a 383 with the LT1 t56. You will just need a custom flywheel...I had one made by Centerforce. Everything else works like it should. I would even argue that the LT1 t56 may be a little more sought after than the LS1 version due to the fact that it will bolt to the gen 1 motors.

I would say see if you can swap it with someone looking for an LS trans. There are plenty of people around. Or sell it and take the proceeds to buy the LT1 version. Just my $.02
