Default 99 bird v6 to ls1

I recently picked up a 99 bird for relatively cheap. I used to have a 94 LT1 M6 TA, mostly bolt ons, ended up blowing a headgasket and sold it about 16 months ago. Afterwards, I bought a 94 5.0 mustang. Hated it from the beginning. Just never drove like an f-body. So I'm going back to pontiac. <3. It'll be a slow build, but first thing is to get an ls1 in it. The end goal is to have 450rwhp, with a T56.

Anyways. I'm going to be buying parts for the next year, and in februaryish next year I'll be swapping to an ls1 from the 3.8. I'll be keeping the auto trans for the time being. Will work on the trans swap later.

Will the 4l60 out of the v6 work? Will I need a new bellhousing?

I know I need the ls1 fuel lines, driveshaft, obviously harness and pcm. Will the harness mount up to the bulkhead connector? What else will I need? Never done a swap like this, so this will be a bit new.

PS: Yes, I know people are going to say just buy an ls1 TA. I'm going to swap. Let's me do what I want with the car.

Not too much different from the 1998, there is some wiring differences.

Use a V8 Trans.

I read your thread a bit, the wiring still seems like it's going to be a little tricky.

So far my parts list consists of: Motor, Acc. Brackets, T56 trans, clutch, master, slave, new pedals, accelerator cable, driveshaft, k-member, trans mount, motor mounts, harness, pcm, fuel pump/lines, radiator.

I've read that I'm going to need a rack, to clear the oil pan, is that true? I'm not worrying about the rear end or suspension right away. I'll be doing that down the road. Simply trying to get the parts together for the motor and trans swap only.

Best bet would be to get an entire motor trans front susp drop out with harnesses and everything. Switching to manual will make it a much bigger job, of course.

The wiring was pretty easy..with the 99 you will have the serial data wire going to the gauges.
