Default Can u use a Monte Carlo 2007 5.3l like a truck motor?

Look at ls motors for a swap an ran a cross a IMPALA 07 5.3L (VIN C, 8th digit, opt LS4)
MONTE CARLO 07 5.3L (VIN C, 8th digit, opt LS4)

is this a 5.3l v8 like in the trucks I know it's front wheel drive but can it be easily made to work like a truck motor? Thanks guys

I would say no since it is front wheel drive. All the accesories and everything are oriented wrong.

I recall reading that they have the wrong bellhousing pattern. I think they use one to match the FWD transmissions.

That is a definite no. Shorter crank, wrong bell housing pattern.

It can be done, a few years ago there was an article of a dood that stuck a northstar motor in an s-10. Anything can be done with a welder, and a big hammer. I'm pretty sure the motor came from a sts or eldorado. Front wheel drive vehicles as well.

From what I have read the Block is the same as a normal LS Engine in the front, but the back has the V6 Bellhousing Pattern.

True but that pattern area is smaller and raised so I would assume you.could machine that off and tap for the correct pattern and swap cranks but than is all that work worth it?

You can mount it longitudinally pretty easily. Why reinvent the wheel!

Just run a 60* 4l60e like one off a 3.8L Camaro's. Then run a normal LS oil pan. You can keep the front accessory drive as long as it fits your swap.

Scroll about 3/4 way down the page at the link and you can see the huge difference in bellhousing bolt pattern.

The starter mounts on the 60* 4T60/65 transmission on LS4 applications.

So you would need to fab a starter mount as there is no provision for it on the block. Which is not impossible. You could make a mount plate for the starter to go between the engine and trans. It would give you a place to mount a regular LS starter. This would also help with the shorter rear crank stick out as well.

I think it's gotten to the "why bother" point.

They are really cheap most times, because you can't swap them easily, so there is no demand for them.
