LSx in a S197 'stang: need steering in the right direction Edit- redid the post to make it smaller
Hey all, I'm looking to build up an LS engine for my 2007 'stang, and there are a few gray areas I'm confused about.
1. What trans should I get? should I get something meant to fit into an S197 so my shifter and everything else will line up right?
2. Getting a custom made driveshaft to fit would drive up costs pretty easily. Could I have one modified to fit my specs for less? what are my options here?
3. If i decided to try to retain whatever power steering pump comes with the engine (it will be a junkyard rebuild most likely), what all is involved with using it with my stock steering? I haven't looked much into this, but I've heard something about the pressures not matching properly between ford/gm.
Any help is appreciated.

But in other news I'm going today to go check out a lq4 in a wrecked van. Price seems too good to be true but I'll give it a shot!

What trans is in yur Mustang now? If yur auto it's no big deal,you can modify the ford shift cable to work. I just had a hydraulic shop make up a new hose for the power steering. For the DS all I did was use a conversion u-joint from Precision to go from the Chevy slip yoke to ford DS. Then when I went to place the motor and make my motor mounts, I put the DS in and moved the engine/trans to where it needed to be in order to use the stock Mustang DS. I even used the stock ford shifter.

It's an auto right now, but I'm looking into a T56.
I tried to do the math and from what it looked like the shifter would be about 4-5 inches too far forward for the factory hole in the floor. then again that was a lot of guesstimating with some numbers i got offline.
I suppose I can just fix that with a late model GTO shifter? it seems like it will push it back a couple inches.
..or who knows, maybe it'll all line up just fine!
