Default another 5.3 in a third gen

hey everyone found a great deal on a 5.3 to replace my tpi 305.
i know the fan, intake, water pump, oil pan has to go and need to relocatepower steering. (am i missing something??))

im fairly new to this stayed up four hours reading on this site my question is

cast number on 5.3 blocks and wich is the best?(want cable throttle)

also i cant have a stock. motor

so performance,
was thinkin ls1 intake and a ls6 stock cam (if theres a difference pretty sure there is) or cam from summit or so

goals for cam nice idle lots of power and torque with the good ole 25 mpg highway cruise.

and exhaust will be headers from hawks followed by a three inch two a magnaflow.

heads i here are really good for a five three but if there are better stock ones is it worth the swap?? or port?

i want see 350 to the tires maybe more with this five three.
Is this possible?
what could be done to achieve this?

thanks to all

by the way new to lsx

Read the LS1 swap sticky on TGO first, then read the truck motor addendum. Should set the record strait for whats needed

You'll need a bigger cam than a LS6 for 350 to the wheels in the 5.3

Also, be sure its a 5.3 and not a 4.8, externally they are identical. Pull the pan and check the casting number on the crank. xxx216 is 5.3, anything else is 4.8

Not on a 5.3. LS6 is as big as id go. Much like the 305 vs 350 debate, parts dont give as much benefit to the smaller engines compared to the larger ones

Try a mild aftermarket cam to start with. If it doesnt suit you, move up to a 6.0 shortblock and start shopping for heads

ok got ya i think for starting ls1 a 5.3 is a great choice not much l;ess power than a 5.7 from what ive read.
just not as much as you can do with heaDS INtake and cam compared to the 5.7 without throwing a turbo.

thanks for the input im just buying parts slowly so i dont go broje quickly

how much did you get from your 5.3? (if same pocket from tg0) that you threw in ure bird

and 350 rwhp and rwtrq should be easy with a 5.3 with just a caM.

i just need the serpentine setup to fit my bird and intake.

parts order so far
water pump
and cross member

parts to go lots........

im creating a list for the parts i need and where to get them to convert my 5.3 to fit into my 92 bird
mostly ebay and autozone so far.
ill post the list later tonight when im done.(unless i pass out)
mainly to compare prices in the end, 5.3 to a 5.7

first off list is being based of a 5.3 i can pick up with tranny and ecm etc for nine hundred
compared to the 5.7 ive seen the lowest for 3k without tranny with tranny 4k(please correct me if im wrong)

doing this to help me know where i sit at with money and power.Mainly causeif you are any thing like me budget plays a big deal in a build.

so basically if i build a 5.3 for 3 grand and get power to match a 5.7 why not go 5.7? (wich i doubt but still think this will help everyone in the future)

The long block is cheaper at the start. Once you buy all the parts necessary to make it fit, then the cost is on par or slightly less than a complete LS1 dropout package

Might want to double check that part number. O'reillys lists the same number for a 1997 c1500 truck 5.7l small block 350.

Lo al friend found me a great deal with a oilpan windage tray and pickup. Tube when he bought his 6.0
Other news and questions km going to throw it in the stock way see how she runs then save for.upgrades. to get aeast 350 Hp to the tires cars a everyday driver so this build also concerns gas mileage. Wait there was no questions hahaha I'm really excited for this though
