I was tinkering with some of the interior parts today. Took out the sail panels and the plastic coverings down by the footwells so that I can cover them in the vinyl. I don't know what the official name of the stuff is, but the trim that surrounds the headliner at the windshield, and all along the side window areas....usually it's plastic but in my case it's aluminum. I covered most of that today, but have to repair a piece before I can wrap that up (pun intended).

Anyway, I remembered to bring a camera this time, so here are a few shots of the dash installed. Pardon the awful mess. Also, the screws you see will be replaced by black ones as soon as I can find a place that sells them. You'd think it would be easier to find such a thing. I tried to use those black plastic screw covers, but they stick out pretty far and are really noticable.

Let me know if you come up with anything. My plan is when I have my guage dash plates powder coated I am going to have the head of the screws powder coated at the same time.

I's been forever since I updated. Sorry about that...life gets in the way sometimes. I really don't have moch of a REAL update for you guys, but I wanted to post a few pics. I found some pics of an Impala I liked and I modified them to give me a sort of blueprint to work from. This is generally the look I am going for (although the airbags are in the distant future).

I also picked up some Hot Rod Flatz paint. It's a satin finish like primer but it comes in like 70 colors. I chose "Twilight Black Metallic" which is not black, but more of a charcoal gray. I bout a quart to paint the door jambs, etc, and if I like it, I will pain the whole car. This is a photo (although not a great one) of the color:

Also, here's a before and after shot of the kickpanels I covered in vinyl. Had to make all new sail panels too....also covered in vinyl

And if any of you have seen my other frantic posts, my hood will not close, so I have to switch over to the LS1 intake. I WISH it was an LS6. Oh well. Paid $50 for it, took it home and cleaned it and painted it to match the rest of the engine:

Also picked up the Dirty Dingo brackets to lower the alternator:

Lot's of setbacks recently. I did get the doors and fenders back on the car....no pics though, sorry. I hope to work on it again this weekend.

Default Awsome

Awsome stuff, thanks for the update. That LS1 intake is going to choke your horsepower, it's smaller than the LS6. I'm sure you know that though. Your interior is coming a long well, I liked how you laid the guages out and covered them. Good job.

Oh I'm not replacing an LS6 intake with an LS1 intake...I am swapping out the tall truck intake for the LS1. I want an LS6 but for now this is what I can afford.

Superdave, any chance you'd be willing to do another dash like yours for a fee? I'm in the middle of pulling the old gauges out and replacing them with new ones.

I might consider it, but it wouldn't be cheap. It takes a whooooole lot of time to do right. What kind of car and what exactly would you like to have done?

Sure its not the Alternator thats hitting the hood ? I was able to get the truck intake to fit under the hood of my 70 Corvette and an Impala should have way more room. Just remove the beauty cover and cut down the bumps and mounts for the cover and You should have plenty of room. Stan.

What about heater vents? Will you be moving them up into the dash like I did, or will you keep them where they are now?

The cover is off, and it still looks grim. I ran a string from fender to fender and there's not enough clearance to make up for the thickness of the hood. Alternator is DEFINITELY way too high, but I bought brackets to lower it. We did raise the engine some to clear the crossmember...perhaps we raised a tad bit too much.

Very cool man. I am hoping that my Hot Rod Flatz color comes out as nice as yours. I hear the metallics are a lot harder to paint.

Right hand drive huh? That sounds really hard to drive

that is true about the hot rod flatz i shot the black with the help of friend/part time painter and came out clean the metallic aqua green was a hell of alot harder seemed like it was harder to keep even. RHD was the dumbest thing i thought of doing along with the 4in raised front cross member so the car would lay the body. car was never 100% and only drove off trailer into a show. (for the skeptics)
