Huh! I have never seen that, but it makes sense. What effects do you think it has on the flow?

Maybe, but in person it didn't look too bad. Even if it is a lot more tight, as long as I can get a socket in there and put on a low profile ratchet on to spin them loose, a magnetic can should be able to lift the plug out. That said...pulling these headers isn't going to be difficult - if it comes down to that.

Heh, yeah my dad and I bought the car and after quickly losing a motor decided to start from the body up. What is CSS? PM me a link to the thread please? LS swaps are great, unless you're wanting to build something you can race in NMRA/NMCA/NHRA events (aside from index and some bracket classes).

MrPotatoeHead is correct; it is a new rule for the Pro Mod class due to numerous failures over the past few years which in some cases caused pretty catastrophic damage. The effect on flow should be negligible, but exhaust will leak around the holes. Since this isn't a Pro Mod class car, it MAY be legal to weld up the holes and not worry about the bolts - but I'm not quite sure at this point.

Thru-the-floor subframes are in, as well as battle boxes. Cage should be started next week

Update:

Fathouse started laying out the cage this week. I'll have more pics to post tomorrow when I drop by to get the seat/door bar measurements done.

Looks really nice. After welding up my own cage I can definitely tell you it is a ton of work. If I had them money I would have paid someone else to go through that, lol.

Went down to Fathouse Fabrications and got fitted for the seat and door bars this afternoon. Luckily both my dad and I liked the same seating position, so if we both choose to race we'll fit fine.

Snapped some more pics, too:

Looks like some very good quality work. Is it a chromoly or DOM tubing cage?

Chromoly Believe it or not this is the first cage they have done from scratch! Apparently they are trying some cage modeling software which is helping, but the coolest thing is by using the software they'll be able to tell us exactly how much the cage weighs when it's done.

Trying to decide on a water pump setup now- anybody have thoughts on remote mount vs block mounted? When we switch to elec water pump the only thing left belt driven will be the alternator and fuel pump....then the question of whether to just switch to an 18v setup and ditch the alt altogether. I'm torn because I would love to drive the car on the street a bit, though my dad who co-owns/drives doesn't really mind having a track only car.

Fathouse is also going to make a custom a/w intercooler setup for us so we can fit everything behind/under the dash - so we'll have a passenger seat after all (more reason to drive it on the street lol).

Going to switch to a smaller fuel cell (had a 15gal) to make room for the IC tank and battery in the trunk.

Finally we need to decide on an intake. Either going with a Victor Jr/super or a Holley HiRam. I like the Hiram since you can rotate the top around to point towards the firewall, however I don't want to buy a new hood so we have to make sure whatever we go with measures out with plenty of room before we pull the trigger.

More updates to come in the following days/weeks!

Great build. Love the fab work.

Maybe I missed it but what are you guys doing to support the weight of the turbo and wastegate hanging way up there off the headers?

You definitely missed it lol...check out the lower tubular crossmember in the last few pages of engine pics. The cross member is mounted to the underside of the frame rails and mounts to the top and side of the turbos hotside.

Just snagged a Meziere WP319S on eBay for about the price of the lower flow WP119. Guess that takes care of the water pump dilemma

Nah, not yet. Fathouse is going to figure out the dimensions and get a custom sized unit. Just need to fit a half sized lil guy anyway.
