Buy LQ4 pullout or piece it together?
Currently getting a parts list for my 2003 Mustang GT LQ4 swap. My question is should I buy a complete engine pullout or piece together the swap? My problem I see when buying a complete pullout is almost everything will be replaced, I will be building or buying a Texas speed long block but of course doesn't come with the sensors, ecu, bolts, brackets ect. So should I just find the missing pieces on eBay or the forums?

If you are getting an all new crate engine or an entire new engine assembly, it will not be worth it to buy a used pull out just for used sensors and wiring harness and pcm. There are many ways to get these parts new/used for not a lot of money.

I am in the same boat thinking of a pull out to get all the small parts but knowing all the internals will be replaced! I think i am going to start from scratch should not be to hard to find everything.

Pullout. LQ4s are cheap and you aren't really paying too much extra to get everything (some places will even knock off a few bucks if you tell them to keep the accessories, or upcharge a bit to send you whatever it is you are wanting off a different car). Getting everything at once ensures you have it all harness wise. If you aren't using any of it buy a long block somewhere, the issue with that is everyone seems to think their blocks are made of gold (especially if they are aluminum). I'd spend an hour and make up a spreadsheet for rough costs each way, it's hard to say without knowing how much you are changing. In hindsight I think I would have just bought a whole car and gutted it.

It all depends on what your time is worth.Buy a pullout and have most of those annoying little bits and pieces sitting in your shop,or spend a few hours trying to find that connector or piece of harness and waiting days for it to show up.Your choice, spend your time wisely...

This is what I will not need so do you all thinks the pullout is worth it. Do not need harness because Iam buying a psi swap harness, don't need longblock or intake manifold buying forged shortblock, heads and car intake manifold not sure if Iam going to use ecu or run a standalone. Parts I will need are accessories with brackets, all nuts and bolts, sensors and misc small clips and pieces.

Based on your needs a 6 litre pullout won't do you much good at all. You probably won't be running the truck accessories, most mustang guys don't because of hood clearance. Now your left with a pullout you're going to take some hardware and a few sensors from??? Take a trip to your local junkyard and strip those parts from a junker.
