Default Turbo 5.3 Monte Carlo

Well, doing a fun little build in the 86.

The car

Well I got rid of the mystery motor.

And picked up this grand old beast

A good amount of nasty smelling crap under the intake.

What the hell happened here?

Needs a good old hone and she will be back up. After I order a few more parts of course..... A few.

Now I have a few questions as I start this.

As I sit now, I got the ms3 cam with 114 LSA. The motor has the 862 heads on it, and I got a set of the trick flow dual spring valve springs. My question is, with this set up will I need any fly cutting? Also what would you suggest I do pushrod wise?

Alright, I'll check into it, and I cant get those sensors out for the life of me. 1/2 of the bolts on this motor are wither seized in or so rusty you cant use a wrench on them.

From the looks of it the Grommets pulled out of the Valley Cover.

Since you have it out try Channel Locks and twist them out.. It's not like you are trying to save them..

I'll give it a try. I just don't want them to crunch in and then not move.

It's a "Night Time" looking paint. In the day you can see all of the swirls and haze and chips and dings, but cruising at night I'm not afraid to rod the **** out of it. *I live on gravel so this is a big statement haha*

Now I need to figure out if I want to go with a fuel tank from a v6 monte, or a fuel cell.

Thanks, now here is kind of a dumb question, I'm new to all of this wiring though haha.

When I install this motor, can I get by with just the ecm and the wiring to the motor and trans, or do I also need to pick up the under hood fuse box from a 5.3 truck? I've seen it done both ways.

No questions are dumb. most people do not use them, but you can if you want to. Its is alot easier to set your harness up as a 4 wire hook up and just an after market fuse block and a couple of relays. here is some good info for you

These guys on this board are great for getting info from. So ask your questions.

Thank you very much, that site has a ton of info. I'm going to try not to use it so that I can clean up the engine bay a decent amount.

Well the ms3 I picked up, with the 114lsa I was reading could be bad for my build. I'm going to sell it to my buddy with his gto and stick to a stock cam for now. I need the money to go into other parts anyway.

Any cam over stock is better than none. These engines love cams! Take advantage of those stock 15degree heads! I have a Z06 cam in mine, and it gave the car aprox400hp. See if you can get a cam. Jegs has the Z06 cam on sale for like $270 I think. Good luck!

Brought home the motor from the machine shop, he never touched it so I went and got it....

Also, who sells a flexplate/ spacer to mate the 5.3 to a 4l80e? I have the tranny from a 1996 and Ive been searching but getting a run around.
