Default 89 mustang gt...lq4 or turbo the 5.0?!

I've already got a lq4 with prc heads and cam, with around 8,000 miles on it..pulled it out of my lifted z71,to put it back stock..can't decide if I want to do the swap over to the lsx with a t-56 in the stang..it's a 89 mustang gt 5.0 5spd car pretty much stock..or do a rebuild on the 5.0.. possibly the stroker kit with a good set of heads, and throw on one of the on3 performance turbo kits...after looking into all the swap parts for the lq4..it looks like its gonna be a little expensive..factoring in that I want to get the t-56,aje k-member,swap headers,Manuel rack,p.s.i harness, clutch, drive shaft the $$$ are getting up there!..if you guys were in my shoes what do you think the best route would be to go?..this will be pretty much a street/strip car mostly street..which set up would run better?!..any advise would be greatly appreciated

I'll be honest, I've spent A LOT more the I originally planned on.

Problem with the 5.0 is the block splits in half with anything near 500hp.

Ive had both in my car. Started out with a 306 which it had when i got it, made a great 12 sec street motor, then took it to the next level and built a 347 while it did make a lot of low end torque and was fun to drive it was a little dissapointing, it seem to lack power it only made 360hp to the tire and the end result lacked longevity when all the mian bearings wiped on it. While this might of just been my bad luck i still decided to go with a ls1 which i think makes a great swap. They run great, make power, great fuel economy, easy to work on. My buddy ricky has a stock ls1 w/turbo350 and a ms4 and runs 10.90s kinda of a no brainer. Just my two sense.

I did spend a little more than I wanted to. But, I did redo the brakes and fuel system. Now that it's running, I figure I have $6000 in it, but I would do it again. The 302 is a good engine, but compared to an ls, it's old technology. My build was not a crazy one, LQ4, small reground cam, 799 heads, ls1 intake, 43 lb injectors, and headers. The tuner said around 430 at the rear wheels. Still have to get a final tune. So a click over 500 at the crank, junkyard engine with a cam.

lsx ftw! to make any good power with the ford motor youll need to spend $1200+ on heads alone that would pay for the x member and some of the other parts needed all in its self. plus you can sell your stock 302 and put that cash in the the lsx swap. just my 2 cents.

I have around 5K in my swap(car included) and that includes new race star wheels, 5 lug + rear disk swap and florida50 gage cluster. I only have a 4.8 but she feels pretty strong and Im sure the juice will really wake her up. I am already gathering parts to do a single turbo in the near future

i bought a wrecked camaro for 2500 and used damn near everthing out of it only had to buy some fuel components and k member and headers/exhuast. So with some time and dedication you could have it done fairly cheap.

I appreciate all the advise guys!..I'm just gonna bite the bullet, and do the damn thing haha..my lq4 is bored 0.30 over with 10.5:1 pistons, prc stage 2.5 heads and a custom ground comp cam 235/243@112..the truck intake is still on it,think I'm gonna go with a ls1 manifold instead..do you think it'll run decent with a t56 behind it with a decent rear end, nothing to extreme yet?..zipster I found your write up on the willwood master, and stock petal assy..I'm gonna try that route, and see what happens..what kind of clutch do you guys recommend to hold the power?

Here is a video when the motor was in my truck when I first had it built..it ran alright but had to be tore back down cause a mistake on the machine shops end..this is a 4wd run,in 2wd it would just go up in smoke!haha

I think if he wanted to run the ford motor he would have posted this same question on a mustang forum instead of on here. He had to have already wanted to do the lsx swap if he posted this question here... like we all are going to tell him to stick with the winsor motor... yeah right! lol

I have worked on MANY 302 roller blocks. Don't waste your time. They have VERY VERY thin main webs and will fail. The Chevy block is much tougher.
