700r4 behind LQ4/LS1
I am converting my wife's impala from a 283/powerglide to an LQ4/LS1 with 700r4 transmission. I was curious if there was a way for 98 Harness and PCM to still control the TCC solenoid and the 4th gear clutch switch. I am above average in electronics, so I have a pretty good knowledge of how to read schematics and pinouts and am able to trace wires and stuff. I am just curious if there is anyone out there that has already figured this out. That way I am not trying to reinvent the wheel or anything. I searched and came up with nothing, but that doesn't always mean anything. TIA for any help.

700r4 doesn't have electronicly controlled 4th gear. Only the TCC works by pcm. I wouldn't trust it to live very long unless you buy a real high end trans. I have one with all the updated parts and manual valve body and it blows up every 6 months. I went back to th350!!!

Agree with 99 on the TCC, it doesnt need to be controlled by the PCM. Regarding the transmission living. One of our guys has one behind an LS1 with cam swap. Car goes in the 11.70s without the bottle. On the bottle it still hasnt blow the thing up.

Why not run a 4l80e? Stronger and PCM controlled just have the mech speedo problem.
Is the motor DBC? If not you have to come up with a way to mount the TV cable. I have seen some mounted inside on the pedal itself.

I had problems with the TV cable too... thats why I went with the TCI manual valve body. Fixed that problem but then it shifted so damn hard it started breaking the hard parts. I still have it, thought about getting it done by a big time trans builder just to see if it will live longer than when I do it myself.

I already have a 700 that I built years ago and couldn't sell. Figured I may as well use it now. I am going dbc. And yea, adjusting the TV cable blows. Have done it a few times. Thinking it might be something I get some help with from the old guys in my shop.

4L80E might be a bit overkill for what you are doing. If you already have the transmission and you are on a budget, then there is nothing wrong with using it.

LS1 and 700r4.
I've got one behind my LS1 hybrid, 5.3HO with LS1 topend and it works good. While my shift points are not perfect, they are pretty decent. Find out what year and make car yours came out of before making any decisions. You will find a code on the side of the tranny, near the pan flange I believe. Do a search on decoding the info. Some are better than others and even came in v6's. Ideally you want and 87 or later model as it will have most of the updates in it already. You'll want to update a few things like the sun shell. If you have the right valvebody you can convert the TCC to hydraulic lockup and not have to worry about any wires. Yes, TV cable adjustment it critical but not a mystery to setup proper. Bottom line is a good tranny but you have to do your research and build it right. If you do you will have good luck with it.

This trans came from a 92 Camaro with a 305. Kind of a turd car, but this trans worked fine when pulled. He did a 5 speed swap and gave me the trans. I rebuilt it using all new gaskets and seals and clutches. I think it will be a good trans, just need to figure out these tiny problems.

I have a 04 gto harness and motor with a 700. Its originally a 6 speed harness, speartech chopped out wiring i dont need. Under what circumstances would my ecm send out a lockup ground thru that wire if at all? Right now i wired up a simple tcc lockup thru my brake switch
