Default How are you mounting all your relays on the engine harness?

I have several relays that go w/my engine harness (fan1, fan2, fuel) that I need to mount and they all have what looks like a mounting tab on the back where you could slide them on some type of factory bracket. Is there a stock bracket available to mount relays that I can get or do I need to figure out how to fab something?

How have you all mounted your relays? Not interested so much in where you mounted, but what you attached them to.

Thx!

I have a couple weatherproof relays taped directly to the harness. Check them out in the pic - they're on the thick set of cables running across the lower rad support:

Default Relay Mounting Bracket

I am in the middle of making the harness for my carb'd 5.3 Nova swap. I am redoing a lot of the old wiring system and ran into the same issue. I went to the local junkyard and found a sweet set of 4 sealed relays on a 98' Caddy Eldorado. The plugs snap into the bottom, and the relays have a slide on clip on the back and a retaining pin to ensure the plug stays in tight and the relay stays on the bracket! I wish I had a picture, but I just got them yesterday. I will post a pic in a few days.

If you go to a junkyard to find one the relay pack is located under the fuse box enclosure, under the fuses and power dist. center.

BTW, I got all 4 relays and bracket for $5, going to grab another this weekend.

I put my PCM in the dash, for the realys and fuses, I used a Painless Aux fuse box under the dask for the fuses required (coil, inj, etc). For the Fan Relays, since I had the complete body and engine harness. I used a few of the relay pigtails and relay to create my Fan Relay setup and mounted it next to the Battery, under the Fender near the right head light. I also used a Painless Aux *** box that is mounted near it.

You can see my setup in my Nova project link in my Sig.

I had also used one the F-Body fuse box with all the relay and fuses. I was going to use it to re-wire and re-arranged all of the fuse and relay to meet my requirements. It was a good idea and it did work out well, but it was a bit to large to mount anywhere that I liked. So I canned that idea after doing all of work and re-wiring the C1/C2 Connectors and everything. So it is possible to take an OEM fuse/relay box and use it by just re-wiring it. (also in my Nova project link).

I use these for my main fuse / relay center when making a standalone harness.

And I use these if I need high current relays for large electric fans.

I am mounting mine on the panel below on the rad support/fender. I am using the Cooper Bussman panel and all the relays: fans, headlight, a/c are in the custom made panel except the fule pump relay, which will be mounted in the trunk. Check out my build thread, link is in my signature, for more details. If you have any questions let me know.

Here is the panel I made out of 16 gauge sheetmetal

Here is the Cooper Bussman RTM panel...it is a very high quality piece and extremely compact.

This is a great looking panel - I plan on using two of these when I rebuild my harness over the winter.

Here is my setup.. (my setup is Budget minded, all of the parts are recovered parts from a 02 Z28 that I parted out)

For the Fans, made a quick panel to hold them. Mounted next to the battery. (got to clean up the wires later).

Since my PCM us under the dash.. I used the Painless Aux fuse box and sheet metal mounting.. placed in the right most corner in the dash,

I am using the Eldo relays too. They are cheap, have a nice mounting bracket, and are easy to find if you need to replace them on the road.

I just grabbed a bracket off of a chevy astro van at the pick and pull yesterday. Not perfect, but mounts all four of my relays (picked up a single to add to it from anther car, the astro is only for 3).

Nice setup Rocket rod! That is almost exactly what I want to do for my Nova! You beat me to it. Going to check out your build thread right now. I was thinking about adding a plate in front of the electrical mounting plate to conceal the wiring.

I was also contmeplating move the battery to the truck and putting a .50 cal ammo can on the battery tray and building fuse panel, relay packs, distrubution blocks and power switch inside it. I have seen a number of offroad guys do this. Great at keeping water out but a little ugly...

The female plug that I posted above should work with the Eldo factory relays. You can buy the terminals separately so you can plug your wires directly into the socket without having to make a splice. This would make for a much better connection for you guys that want to use the junkyard relay setups.

Not at all what I pictured in my head, but I like it a lot! Is there a part number on the metal "relay rack?"

Those Eldo relays look almost identical to the relays on 2nd gen s10's.
